Ornex
Ornex (; frp, Ornèx) is a commune in the Ain department in eastern France. Geography It is located on the former N5 highway between the Jura mountains and the Swiss border. Located nine kilometres from Geneva, many inhabitants commute across the Swiss border each morning to jobs with international organizations and multinational corporations. It is bordered in the south by Ferney-Voltaire, in the west by Prévessin-Moëns and Segny, in the north by Versonnex and in the east by the Swiss commune of Collex-Bossy. A section of the tunnel excavated by CERN between 1983 and 1988 passes under the town. Originally excavated for the LEP collider, the tunnel now houses the Large Hadron Collider that started operating in 2008. The major visible presence of the LHC tunnel in the area are some surface buildings and some large helium gas tanks further North in Cessy. Collex-Bossy
Collex-Bossy is a municipality of the Canton of Geneva, Switzerland. History Both Collex and Bossy were first mentioned in 1258. Collex was called ''Coliacum'' while Bossy was ''Bocium''. Between 1790-1855 the municipality also included the village of Bellevue. In 1911, shortly after the invention of powered aircraft, one of Switzerland's first aerodromes was founded in Collex-Bossy. It featured grass runways and hangars, but was already abandoned a couple of years later. In 1919, the great council of the canton of Geneva chose the site for the construction of a modern airport. However, it soon opted for the nearby area of Cointrin instead, since some land-owners demanded high prices and lengthy court cases were expected for possible expropriations. Collider
A collider is a type of particle accelerator which brings two opposing particle beams together such that the particles collide. Colliders may either be ring accelerators or linear accelerators. Colliders are used as a research tool in particle physics by accelerating particles to very high kinetic energy and letting them impact other particles. Analysis of the byproducts of these collisions gives scientists good evidence of the structure of the subatomic world and the laws of nature governing it. These may become apparent only at high energies and for tiny periods of time, and therefore may be hard or impossible to study in other ways. Treaty Of Lyon (1601)
The Treaty of Lyon was signed on January 17, 1601, between France and Savoy, to bring an end to the Franco-Savoyard War of 1600–1601. Based on the terms of the treaty, Henry IV of France relinquished Saluzzo to Savoy, while Savoy kept Pont de Gresin, Valserine, and was required to pay France 150,000 livres. In return, Henry acquired Bugey, Valromey, Gex, and Bresse. Eventually, the territory of Bresse was attached to the French military government of Burgundy. Payerne
Payerne (; frp, Payèrna) is a municipality in the Swiss canton of Vaud. It was the seat of the district of Payerne, and is now part of the district of Broye-Vully. The German name ''Peterlingen'' for the town is out of use. History The earliest traces of settlements near Payerne include Neolithic objects and traces of a Bronze Age settlement. There are also burial mounds from the Hallstatt and Latène cultures, including gold necklaces which were found at Le Bois de Roverex. There was a Celtic bridge and a Roman era road in the area of Les Aventuri.
