Daniel William Coquillett (23 January 1856 – 7 July 1911) was an American entomologist who specialised in flies Flies are insects of the Order (biology), order Diptera, the name being derived from the Ancient Greek, Greek δι- ''di-'' "two", and πτερόν ''pteron'' "wing". Insects of this order use only a single pair of wings to fly, the hindwin .... He wrote a revision of the dipterous family Therevidae and many other scientific papers in which he described many new species and genus (biology), genera of flies. Coquillett was also the first to attempt fumigation with hydrocyanic acid as a means for controlling citrus scale insects. Christian Rudolph Wilhelm Wiedemann
Christian Rudolph Wilhelm Wiedemann (7 December 1770 – 31 December 1840) was a German physician, historian, naturalist and entomologist. He is best known for his studies of world Diptera, but he also studied Hymenoptera and Coleoptera, although far less expertly. Biography Wiedemann’s father, Conrad Eberhard Wiedemann (1722–1804) was an art dealer and his mother, Dorothea Frederike (née Raspe) (1741–1804) was the daughter of an accountant in the Royal Mining Service and also interested in the arts. After his education in Brunswick, he matriculated in 1790 to the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Jena where he was a contemporary of the poet Friedrich von Hardenberg. While attending university, Wiedemann, was one of the many pupils of Johann Friedrich Blumenbach, and travelled to Saxony and Bohemia. Erich Martin Hering
Erich Martin Hering (10 November 1893, Zielona Góra, Heinersdorf – 18 August 1967, Berlin) was a German entomologist. Hering specialised in leaf miners. He was a curator in the Museum für Naturkunde in Berlin, where his collections of Lepidoptera, Coleoptera, Hymenoptera and Diptera are conserved. His collections of Agromyzidae are shared between Museum für Naturkunde and the Agricultural School at Portici, now part of the University of Naples Federico II.
