Owsla
Owsla (stylized in all caps) is an American record label and creative collective. It was founded by Skrillex, Tim Smith, Kathryn Frazier, and Clayton Blaha in 2011. Skrillex announced the label on August 17, 2011. The label's first release was Porter Robinson's ''Spitfire''. The name "Owsla" is a reference to Richard Adams' fantasy novel '' Watership Down'', in which it refers to the governing caste in a society of anthropomorphic rabbits. History In 2012, Owsla launched a monthly subscription, ''The Nest'', with benefits including early access to Owsla releases. Watership Down
''Watership Down'' is an adventure novel by English author Richard Adams, published by Rex Collings Ltd of London in 1972. Set in Hampshire in southern England, the story features a small group of rabbits. Although they live in their natural wild environment, with burrows, they are anthropomorphised, possessing their own culture, language, proverbs, poetry, and mythology. Evoking epic themes, the novel follows the rabbits as they escape the destruction of their warren and seek a place to establish a new home (the hill of Watership Down), encountering perils and temptations along the way. Dog Blood
Dog Blood is a side duo of DJs and producers formed in 2012 by music producers Skrillex and Boys Noize. Their debut single, ''Next Order / Middle Finger'', was released on August 12, 2012, on Beatport and iTunes and other music streaming platforms. The song "Next Order" managed to reach #1 on Beatport's Techno chart. On 9 November, Dog Blood announced they were working on new material. Skrillex premiered a new Dog Blood track on an exclusive Owsla live stream to members of The Nest on 21 December 2012. On 16 September they released their second EP, which consists of the tracks 'Shred or Die', 'Middle Finger Pt. 2' and 'Chella Ride'. Spitfire (EP)
''Spitfire'' is the debut extended play (EP) by American electronic music producer Porter Robinson, released on September 13, 2011, through Owsla. After releasing his 2010 single "Say My Name", Robinson expressed desire to explore different musical genres by producing an EP, diverging from his traditional eurodance style. Spanning a range of genres, ''Spitfire'' marked the inaugural release on Owsla and caused Beatport to crash following its promotion by musicians Skrillex and Tiësto. The EP charted at UK Dance Albums, Dance/Electronic Albums and Heatseekers Albums, with Robinson subsequently embarking on a tour to promote it. Gary Richards (born December 31, 1970), known by his stage name Destructo, is an American music executive, concert promoter, and DJ. As of September 1, 2017, he is the President of LiveStyle, North America. Prior to joining LiveStyle, he was the founder and CEO of HARD Events, a brand which has put on popular music festivals since 2007 and was subsequently purchased by Live Nation Entertainment in 2012. He has performed professionally as a DJ under the name Destructo for over 20 years, touring across the world. Crookers
Crookers is the musical project of Italian DJ and producer Francesco "Phra" Barbaglia. Crookers was originally a duo consisting of Phra and fellow producer Bot, who worked together from 2003 to 2012. When the two artists met, both were trying to branch out of their genre and explore dance music. Their first collaboration worked. Phra said, "It felt natural to team up, seeing that we had the same musical tastes... which isn't that easy here in Milan." On October 19, 2012, it was announced that Bot had left the group to pursue a new direction and that Phra would carry on the Crookers name as a solo project. Since then, Phra has produced the song "Ghetto Guetta" under the Crookers alias; the song was published on Phra's own label Ciao Recs under licence to the Be Yourself Catalog as well as Owsla. ''Aleph'' is the debut album by French DJ Gesaffelstein, released on 28 October 2013 on Parlophone and through Owsla in North America. Gesaffelstein began recording it in 2011, and while still working on it, he gained popularity as one of the producers behind Kanye West's ''Yeezus'' (2013). Two singles were released to promote ''Aleph'': "Pursuit" and "Hate or Glory". The album received positive reviews from music critics. "Hate or Glory" is in the film '' John Wick: Chapter 4'', but not on the soundtrack. Promotion and release Before the release of ''Aleph'', two singles were released to promote the album. Michael Tucker (born August 15, 1990), known professionally as BloodPop (stylized as BloodPop®), is an American musician, record producer, songwriter, and gaming executive. Birdy Nam Nam are a DJ crew from France. Birdy Nam Nam has won several prizes throughout their career including the DMC Technics 2002 World TEAM Championships. Emir Kobilić (), known professionally as Salvatore Ganacci (), is a Bosnian-Swedish DJ and record producer. His performances at Tomorrowland in 2018 and 2019 became viral. Early life Emir Kobilić was born in Sarajevo, SFR Yugoslavia, and moved to Stockholm, Sweden.
