Owen is the primary solo project of American indie rock and emo musician Mike Kinsella. The project features soft melodies and complex acoustics, combining acoustic guitar with keyboard, other guitars, vocals, and drums. Career Owen's debut album, '' Owen'', marked a departure from Mike Kinsella's previous projects. For the second album, '' No Good For No One Now'', Kinsella opted to purchase recording equipment instead of studio time. In 2004, Kinsella collaborated with Cale Parks (of Aloha), Bob Hoffnar, Jen Tabor, and Paul Koob, to record '' (the ep)''. Despite rumors of a live band tour, Kinsella rejoined Joan of Arc and toured with Maritime and Aloha. '' (the ep)'' was written as a companion piece to a planned full-length album. American Football (band)
American Football (Stylised as americ anfootball) is an American Midwest emo band from Urbana, Illinois, originally active from 1997 to 2000. They reformed in 2014. The band was formed by guitarist, bassist and singer Mike Kinsella (formerly of Cap'n Jazz and Joan of Arc and currently of Owen), guitarist Steve Holmes (also a member of the Geese), and drummer and trumpet player Steve Lamos (formerly of the One Up Downstairs, one-time member of the Firebird Band and Edward Burch & the Staunch Characters, and currently of the Geese and DMS). Lamos left the band in 2021 but rejoined in 2023. Despite the group's short initial lifespan, their self-titled debut album became one of the most acclaimed emo and math rock records of its era. Mike Kinsella
Mike Kinsella (born March 4, 1977) is an American musician and singer-songwriter. He has been involved in many Illinois-based bands and is best known as the lead vocalist and guitarist of the emo band American Football. Career Kinsella's first musical project was serving as drummer for the band Cap'n Jazz, which he co-founded with his brother Tim. Cap'n Jazz originally featured their local high school star running back on drums. When he quit to focus on football, a 12-year-old Mike Kinsella learned how to play a 16-piece drum set. With either Tim and/or cousin Nate Kinsella, he has also participated in the projects Owls and Joan of Arc. In 1997, Kinsella, along with Steve Lamos and Steve Holmes, formed the band American Football, which would go on to release an EP in 1998 and a full-length album in 1999, before disbanding.
