Overvecht
Overvecht is a district in the Dutch city of Utrecht. As a post-war development, it predominantly features high-rise apartment buildings with spacious greenery in between. Overvecht offers many amenities: multiple parks, a large shopping mall, a police station, a library, train station and a neighborhood office; in terms of sports and culture, it hosts swimming pool De Kwakel, the Vechtsebanen skating rink, the large Ruigenhoek nature recreation area, and the Stefanus cultural center. Overvecht is one of Utrecht's fastest expanding districts, with the municipality reporting 33,732 inhabitants in 2015, making it the fifth-largest district by population. Its cultural and religious demographics are varied. Westbroek is a village in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is a part of the municipality of De Bilt, and lies about 6 km northwest of Bilthoven. Maartensdijk
Maartensdijk is a village in the Netherlands, Dutch province of Utrecht (province), Utrecht. It is a part of the municipality of De Bilt, and lies about 4 km north of Bilthoven. History Maartensdijk was a separate municipality until 2001, when it merged with De Bilt. Until 1812 Maartensdijk was called Oostveen which is pronounced as 'oastfain'. Oostveen means "east fen". A fen is a wetland characterized by Sphagnum, sphagnum moss, peat and an alkaline or neutral pH. Rendering this wetland into agricultural land was initiated by Bishop Godebald van Utrecht (1114–1127) when the Kromme Rijn ("Crooked Rhine") was dammed in 1122 at Wijk bij Duurstede. The same Bishop Godebald gave land development contracts to those who would completely drain this land and make it arable; Oostveen was a large section of this area. Achttienhoven, Utrecht
Achttienhoven is a former hamlet in the municipality of De Bilt, in the Netherlands. It is now considered to be part of the village of Westbroek. Achttienhoven used to be a ''heerlijkheid'' ( manor), until it became part of Westbroek in 1812. From 1818 to 1954, Achttienhoven was a separate municipality again. It then merged with Westbroek, which in its turn was annexed by Maartensdijk in 1957. According to the 19th-century historian A.J. van der Aa, the village used to be called "Everckesdorp". It was first mentioned between 1280 and 1287 as achtienhoeven, and means eighteen parcels of land.
