The Gap Band
The Gap Band was an American Contemporary R&B, R&B and funk band that rose to fame during the 1970s and 1980s. The band consisted of three brothers: Charlie Wilson (musician), Charlie, Ronnie, and Robert Wilson, along with other members; it was named after streets (Greenwood, Archer, and Pine) in the historic Greenwood, Tulsa, Greenwood neighborhood in the brothers' hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma. History Early years The band formed in Tulsa in 1967, based around the three Wilson brothers, but often included other musicians as well. The name "Greenwood, Archer, and Pine Band" originally started as a joke, reflecting the band's origins, and was shortened to GAP Band later. Kenny Thomas (born 12 September 1968, Islington, London) is an English soul singer who had a successful solo career in the 1990s with eight UK top 40 singles and two UK top ten albums. Personal life Thomas grew up on Hillside Estate, Stamford Hill and attended Cardinal Pole Roman Catholic School in Hackney. He was an amateur boxer and worked for British Telecom before embarking on a career as a professional singer. He now lives in Norfolk. The album reached No. 1 on the Black Albums chart and No. 14 on the Pop Albums chart, achieved platinum status, and is considered their most successful project. Cooltempo, the dance music imprint of Chrysalis Records, was revived in May 2018.
