OutNebraska is a Nebraska statewide LGBTQ advocacy, lobbying, and community organization. History A Lincoln, Nebraska LGBTQ community organization was incorporated as Outlinc in 2009. It expanded to a statewide organization and changed its name to OutNebraska in 2019. Equality Federation
Equality Federation is a social justice, advocacy and capacity building organization serving and supporting state-based lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBTQ) advocacy organizations in the United States. History In 1997, a group of state-based LGBT advocacy organizations came together to form the Equality Federation, which originally operated as a volunteer-run coalition. In 2005, Toni Broaddus joined the Federation as its first executive director, transitioning it to a staffed organization. In 2010, the Federation was a staff of four when Broaddus stepped down. After a nationwide search, the board of directors hired Rebecca Isaacs as the organization's second executive director in 2011. Nebraska Coalition For Gay And Lesbian Civil Rights
The Nebraska Coalition for Gay and Lesbian Civil Rights, later called the Nebraska Coalition for LGBT Civil Rights, was an advocacy group in Nebraska that operated from 1981 to approximately 2002. Based in Lincoln, the group advocated for LGBT civil rights. Its motto was "equality before the law", the same motto as the state of Nebraska. Its modern-day successor is OutNebraska. History Founding The Nebraska Coalition for Gay and Lesbian Civil Rights was founded in 1981 to support a proposed amendment to a Lincoln city ordinance. The amendment would have outlawed discrimination in employment, housing, and public accommodations on the basis of sexual orientation and affectional orientation. Coalition spokesman Scott Stebelman said that about fifty people were working together in the new Coalition. Nebraska Initiative 416
Nebraska Initiative 416, officially titled "Ban Same-Sex Marriage Act", was a 2000 ballot initiative that amended the Nebraska Constitution to make it unconstitutional for the state to recognize or perform same-sex marriage, same-sex civil unions, or domestic partnerships. The referendum was approved on November 7, 2000, by 70% of the voters, and it became Article I-29 of the state's Constitution. The initiative has since been struck down in federal court and Same-sex marriage in Nebraska, same-sex marriage is now legally recognized in the state of Nebraska. Spring Creek Prairie Audubon Center is an tallgrass prairie nature preserve located southwest of Lincoln, Nebraska near Denton.
