Northern Ostrobothnia
North Ostrobothnia (; ) is a region of Finland. It borders the Finnish regions of Lapland, Kainuu, North Savo, Central Finland and Central Ostrobothnia, as well as the Russian Republic of Karelia. The easternmost corner of the region between Lapland, Kainuu and the Russian border is known as Koillismaa ("North-East Finland"). Sub-regions Of Finland
Sub-regions (, ) are divisions used for Statistics, statistical purposes in Finland. The country is divided into 69 sub-regions, which are formed by groups of Municipalities of Finland, municipalities within the 19 regions of Finland. These sub-regions represent a Local administrative unit, LAU 1 level of division used in conjunction with the Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics. Each municipality is a member of a sub-region based on cooperation between municipalities and the Commuting, commuter area. The member municipalities must be from the same region. Sub-regions were introduced as administrative divisions in 1994. Sub-region are no longer an official regional administrative divisions since 2014, but it is still valid for statistical purposes. Ii, Finland
Ii (; ) is a municipality of Finland. It is situated by the Bothnian Bay, at the mouth of river Iijoki, and it is part of the Northern Ostrobothnia region. The municipality has a population of () and covers an area of of which is water. The population density is . The municipality is unilingually Finnish. Ii merged with Kuivaniemi on 1 January 2007. The new municipality retained the name Ii, but adopted the coat of arms of Kuivaniemi. Beginning in 2008, Ii is home to the ART Ii Biennale of Northern Environmental and Sculpture Art, an international art fair. The city has ambition to become the first zero waste town in the world, and its municipal manager claims that it does not use fossil fuels for energy. Etymology Ii is notable for having the shortest place name in Finland, and also one of the shortest ones in the world. It is located in the province of Oulu and is part of the Northern Ostrobothnia region, northeast of the city of Oulu and southwest of the town of Kuusamo. Vaala () is a municipality in Finland. It is located in the North Ostrobothnia regions of Finland, region. Established in 1954 (predecessor municipality ''Säräisniemi'', established in 1867), the municipality has a population of () and covers an area of of which is water. The population density is . Eastern European Summer Time (EEST) is one of the names of the UTC+03:00 time zone, which is 3 hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time.
