Ouk Chaktrang At The 2023 SEA Games
Ouk chaktrang events at the 2023 SEA Games were held at the Royal University of Phnom Penh Indoor Hall. 7 events, contested by 7 nations, were held from 29 April to 9 May 2023. The Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP; , ; ) is a national university, national research university of Cambodia, located in the Phnom Penh capital. Established in 1960, it is the country's largest university. It hosts around 30,000 students in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. 2023 SEA Games
The 2023 Southeast Asian Games (, UNGEGN: ''Kar Brâkuŏt Keila Brâchéachéatĕ Asi Aknéy 2023''), also known as the 32nd Southeast Asian Games, or the 32nd SEA Games, and commonly known as Cambodia 2023, were the 32nd edition of the Southeast Asian Games, a biennial sports multi-sport event which was held from 5 to 17 May 2023 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The event returned to its 2-year cycle, as the 2021 SEA Games in Vietnam was delayed to 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The announcement was made at the Southeast Asian Games Federation Council meeting in Singapore, in conjunction with the 2015 SEA Games, by the President of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia, Thong Khon. The Philippines was originally scheduled to host the games, but was pushed forward to 2019 after Brunei withdrew to host the event. Makruk
Makruk (; ; ), or Thai chess (; ; ), is a Strategy game, strategy board game that is descended from the 6th-century Indian game of chaturanga or a close relative thereof, and is therefore related to chess. It is part of the family of chess variants. In Cambodia, where basically the same game is played, it is known as ouk (, ) or ouk chatrang (, ). Origin The Persian traders came to the Ayutthaya kingdom around the 14th century to spread their culture and to trade with the Thai kingdom. It is therefore possible that the Siamese makruk, in its present form, was directly derived from the Persian game of shatranj via the cultural exchange between the two peoples in this period. This is because the movement of makruk's queen, or the "seed" (), is essentially the same as the ferz in shatranj. Janelle Mae Frayna
Janelle Mae Frayna (born May 19, 1996) is a Filipina chess player. She was awarded the title of Woman Grandmaster by FIDE in 2017, becoming the first from the Philippines to achieve this. She is a 3-time and the current Philippine Women's Chess Champion. Early life and education Frayna was born on May 19, 1996, in Legazpi, Albay to George and Sonia Frayna. She is the only daughter of her parents, who work as engineers, and she has two brothers. She attended the Divine Word College of Legazpi, where she took her elementary and high school studies and was a consistent honor student. Frayna entered the Far Eastern University under a scholarship which she earned on her third year in high school. Chess is a board game for two players. It is an abstract strategy game that involves Perfect information, no hidden information and no elements of game of chance, chance. It is played on a square chessboard, board consisting of 64 squares arranged in an 8×8 grid.
