Ouest (French language, French, ) or Lwès (Haitian Creole; both meaning "West") is one of the ten departments of Haiti. It is located in south-central Haiti, linking the Great-North and the Tiburon Peninsula. It is the jurisdictional seat of the national capital, the city of Port-au-Prince. It has an area of and a population of 4,029,705 (2015 estimate), making it both the largest department by area and the most populated department in Haiti. History Taino period The department was part of the Jaragua, Hispaniola, Xaragua kasika under the leadership of Anacaona. There are many native settlements in the department notably around Arcahaie, Arcahaie, Ouest, Akaya, Etang Saumâtre, Azuei Lake, Léogâne, Yaguana, the Gonâve Island, island of Guanabo and Petit-Goâve, Goava. Ouest Department (Ivory Coast)
Ouest Department (originally Sud-Ouest Department) was one of the original four departments of Ivory Coast. It was established in 1961, along with Centre Department (Ivory Coast), Centre Department, Nord Department (Ivory Coast), Nord Department, and Sud-Est Department (Ivory Coast), Sud-Est Department. During Ouest Department's existence, departments were the first-level administrative subdivisions of Ivory Coast. The department was established as Sud-Ouest Department. Using current boundaries as a reference, the territory of Sud-Ouest Department was composed of Haut-Sassandra Region, Gôh Region, Montagnes District, and Nawa Region. In 1963, Centre-Ouest Department was created by dividing Sud-Ouest Department. As a result of this division, Sud-Ouest Department was renamed Ouest Department. Ouest Province, Cameroon
The West Region () is 14,000 km2 of territory located in the central-western portion of the Republic of Cameroon. It borders the Northwest Region to the northwest, the Adamawa Region to the northeast, the Centre Region to the southeast, the Littoral Region to the southwest, and the Southwest Region to the west. The West Region is the smallest of Cameroon's ten regions in area, yet it has the highest population density. As home to the enterprising Bamum and Bamileke kingdoms, the West is an economic bright spot and one of Cameroon's more developed regions.
