Otto Moroder
Otto Moroder (born 29 January 1894 in Ortisei in Val Gardena; died 27 July 1977 in Mayrhofen, Zillertal) was an Austrian sculptor from South Tyrol. Biography He was the last born son of Josef Moroder, he learned his trade in his father's workshop. In 1919 he married the Grödner Anna Knottner and settled in Mayrhofen in the Zillertal. The marriage produced two sons, Klaus and Albin, and a daughter Anne Marie. The girl unfortunately died at the age of 10 weeks. The family adopted a boy named Rudolf Geisler-Moroder, who founded a woodcarving school in Elbigenalp in the Lechtal. In 1916, on the occasion of the centenary of the Tyrolean Kaiserjäger, Otto made a created a statue on the subject of the traditional "Tyrolean firefighter", which was presented to the Kaiser on his birthday. The Emperor gave the artist in a private audience on 16 September 1916 in the Schönbrunn Palace and awarded him with a golden clock. Crucifix Otto Moroder
A crucifix (from Latin ''cruci fixus'' meaning "(one) fixed to a cross") is a cross with an image of Jesus on it, as distinct from a bare cross. The representation of Jesus himself on the cross is referred to in English as the ''corpus'' (Latin for "body"). The crucifix is a principal symbol for many groups of Christians, and one of the most common forms of the Crucifixion in the arts. It is especially important in the Roman Rite of the Roman Catholic Church, but is also used in the Eastern Orthodox Church, most Oriental Orthodox Churches (except the Armenian & Syriac Church), and the Eastern Catholic Churches, as well as by the Lutheran, Moravian and Anglican Churches. Ladin People
The Ladins are an ethnic group in northern Italy. They are distributed in several valleys, collectively known as Ladinia. These include the valleys of Badia and Gherdëina in South Tyrol, of Fassa in the Trentino, and Livinallongo (also known as Buchenstein or Fodom) and Ampezzo in the Province of Belluno. Their native language is Ladin, a Rhaeto-Romance language related to the Swiss Romansh and Friulian languages. They are part of Tyrol, with which they share culture, history, traditions, environment, and architecture. Ladins developed a national ethnic identity in the 19th century. Micurà de Rü undertook the first attempt to develop a written form of the Ladin language. Albin Egger-Lienz (29 January 1868 – 4 November 1926) was an Austrian painter known especially for rustic genre and historical paintings. Career He was born in Dölsach-Stribach near Lienz, in what was the county of Tyrol. He was the natural son of Maria Trojer, a peasant girl, and Georg Egger, a church painter.Lachnit 2003. As an adult he used his father's surname combined with the name of his birthplace. He had his first artistic training under his father, and subsequently studied at the Academy in Munich where he was influenced by Franz Defregger and French painter Jean-François Millet.
