Ottawan is a French pop music duo, who had the hit singles "D.I.S.C.O." and "Hands Up (Give Me Your Heart)" in the early 1980s. Fronted by Patrick Jean-Baptiste and formerly Annette Eltice, the band were masterminded through a cooperation between French producer Daniel Vangarde and Belgian producer Jean Kluger. History In 1979, Ottawan was founded by record producers Daniel Vangarde and Jean Kluger and fronted by male singer Patrick Jean-Baptiste, who was originally from Guadeloupe, and female singer Annette Eltice. "Hands Up (Give Me Your Heart)" is a 1981 song by Ottawan. It was the band's second-biggest international hit single, after their 1979 hit "D.I.S.C.O.". The song reached the top 5 across Europe and became a number one for eight consecutive weeks in New Zealand. It was not released in North America until 1991 as a remix. A French version, titled "Haut les mains (donne moi ton cœur)", is a near translation of the English version. Daniel Vangarde
Daniel Bangalter (, born 1947), known in his musical career as Daniel Vangarde, is a French former producer, lyricist and songwriter who co-wrote and produced several hit records in the 1970s and 1980s, including " Aie a Mwana" with Jean Kluger, "D.I.S.C.O." by Ottawan, and "Cuba" by the Gibson Brothers. The father of Thomas Bangalter, best known as a member of the electronic music duo Daft Punk, he is credited with aiding the duo in their early musical career. In 1971, Vangarde and Kluger created the dance song "Yamasuki" under the name the Yamasuki Singers, which led to the production of the album ''Le Monde Fabuleux Des Yamasuki''. The album featured the song "Aieaoa", later popularized as "Aie a Mwana" by Black Blood and Bananarama. Carrere Records (, ) was a French record label which specialized in Euro disco and rock music. The record company was sold to Warner Music Group in the early 1990s. Early days Claude Carrere started working with Annie Chancel in 1962 and renamed her Sheila, who remained his sole artist for a while. He set up Carrere Productions and the records were distributed by Philips Records. In the late 1960s, he created Disques Carrere. In 1972, he produced and distributed his own releases.
