Other Music was a music retail store that sold CDs, records, and cassettes online and at their brick-and-mortar location in the Noho neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City. The store specialized in the sale of closely curated underground, rare and experimental music. The physical store was located at 15 East 4th Street, New York, NY 10003 from 1995 to June 2016. In January 2007, Other Music announced that it planned to sell high-quality MP3 files for download without using any type of digital rights management. This announcement followed similar moves made by other small online music retailers, including United Kingdom–based Rough Trade, NYC–based Insound, and NYC–based Anthology Recordings. Insound
Insound was an online music store. Insound carried CD, vinyl, hard to find items, music accessories and merchandise. The company was located in New York, New York. History Insound was founded in 1998 by Christian Anthony, Matt Wishnow and Ari Sass. Wishnow and Sass had worked together at Elektra. The site took six months to build and first launched on March 1, 1999. The company gradually gained notoriety through its reviews, online zines and promotion of then-small bands such as Death Cab for Cutie. Insound also gained visibility through hosting events at CMJ and South by Southwest (SXSW). Insound became profitable in 2003. Shintaro Sakamoto (born September 9, 1967) is a Japanese musician, singer/songwriter, and producer. He was a founding member and the frontman for the underground Japanese psychedelic rock band Yura Yura Teikoku. After the band's breakup in 2010, Sakamoto began independently producing music, having released four solo albums to date. Career Sakamoto formed Yura Yura Teikoku in 1989 with drummer Atsushi Yoshida and bassist Chiyo Kamekawa, two other students at Tama Art University. The band released 21 albums from 1989 to 2010, and produced music with indie labels until 1997, after which they moved on to Sony Music Entertainment and DFA Records.
