Ostwald (crater)
Ostwald is a lunar impact crater on the far side of the Moon. It lies just to the east of the crater Guyot, and near the northern border of Ibn Firnas. Recht lies along its eastern rim. This is a worn and eroded crater formation with an irregular rim and inner wall due to multiple small impacts. A brief crater chain forms a cleft in the western inner face. The interior is somewhat more level, but is pock-marked by a multitude of tiny craterlets. There are some low central ridges to the south and northeast of the midpoint. Naming The crater is named after German chemist and Nobel laureate Wilhelm Ostwald. Wilhelm Ostwald
Wilhelm Friedrich Ostwald (; – 4 April 1932) was a Latvian chemist and philosopher. Ostwald is credited with being one of the founders of the field of physical chemistry, with Jacobus Henricus van 't Hoff, Walther Nernst and Svante Arrhenius. He received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1909 for his scientific contributions to the fields of catalysis, chemical equilibria and reaction velocities. Following his 1906 retirement from academic life, Ostwald became much involved in philosophy, art, and politics. He made significant contributions to each of these fields. Guyot (crater)
Guyot is a lunar impact crater on the Moon's far side. It is separated from the crater Kostinskiy to the northeast by only a few kilometers of rough terrain. To the west-southwest lies the crater Lobachevskiy and to the east-southeast is Ostwald. This is a worn and eroded crater with an outer rim that has been somewhat distorted in shape due to nearby impacts. Several small craterlets lie along the rim and the sides. The interior floor has also been marked by impacts, including an eroded formation occupying the northwestern portion. Ibn Firnas (crater)
Ibn Firnas is a Lunar craters, lunar impact crater on the Far side (Moon), far side of the Moon. Attached to the exterior of its southwestern rim is the prominent crater King (crater), King. Only a few kilometers to the north, separated by a rugged stretch of terrain, is the larger crater Ostwald (crater), Ostwald. Ibn Firnas is a worn and eroded crater with small impacts along the northern and eastern rims. Recht (crater)
Recht is a small impact crater on the far side of the Moon. It was named after the American mathematician and astronomer Albert William Recht. It lies across the eastern rim of the much larger crater Ostwald. To the northeast of Recht is Meshcherskiy. This is a bowl-shaped formation with an interior floor that is less than half the diameter of the crater. The inner walls have a higher albedo than the surrounding terrain, while the interior floor is about the same shade of grey.
