Osor Musical Evenings
Osor Musical Evenings () is a Croatian classical music festival that takes place in the historical town of Osor, on the island of Cres in the Kvarner Gulf. The festival was founded in 1976 by Daniel Marušić, a renowned Croatian TV and Opera director, who was its artistic and executive director until his death in 2009. The original idea behind the festival was to revive Osor during the summer, and to create a festival dedicated mostly to works by historical and contemporary Croatian composers. Although in the first decades festival held conferences, theater and opera productions and art exhibitions, today Osor Musical Evenings are oriented exclusively to musical programs, including classical and Contemporary classical music, and occasionally Early music and electronical music. Giovanni Sollima
Giovanni Sollima (born 24 October 1962 in Palermo, Sicily, Italy) is an Italian composer and cellist. He was born into a family of musicians and studied cello with Giovanni Perriera and composition with his father, Eliodoro Sollima, at the Conservatorio di Palermo, where he graduated with highest honors. He later studied with Antonio Janigro and Milko Kelemen at the Musikhochschule Stuttgart and at the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg. As a composer, Sollima's influences are wide ranging, taking in jazz and rock, as well as various ethnic traditions from the Mediterranean area. Sollima's music is influenced by minimalism, with his compositions often featuring modal melodies and repetitive structures. Berislav Šipuš (born 14 May 1958) is a Croatian composer, conductor and music educator who served as 9th Minister of Culture from 24 April 2015 until 22 January 2016 in the Cabinet of Zoran Milanović. Boris Papandopulo
Boris Papandopulo (February 25, 1906 – October 16, 1991) was a Croatian composer and conductor of Greek and Russian Jewish descent. Ha-Kol (Glasilo Židovske zajednice u Hrvatskoj); Djela hrvatskih skladatelja Židovskog podrijetla u Beču; stranica 38; broj 107, studeni / prosinac 2008. He was the son of Greek nobleman Konstantin Papandopulo and Croatian opera singer Maja Strozzi-Pečić and one of the most distinctive Croatian musicians of the 20th century. Aleksandar Marković (born in Belgrade, August 7, 1975) is a Serbian conductor. Marković studied conducting at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst (Vienna), in the class of Leopold Hager. He earned a ''Diploma d'onore'' at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, where he attended a master class in conducting. He was a holder of the Herbert von Karajan Foundation's scholarship. Renata Pokupić (born 24 July 1972, Virovitica, Yugoslavia (now Republic of Croatia) is a Croatian operatic mezzo-soprano. Life and career Renata Pokupić was attending the School of Arts in Zagreb where she studied sculpture and afterwards graduated and obtained her Master of Music from the Music Academy of Zagreb, where she studied with Zdenka Žabčić-Hesky. Osor, Croatia
Osor () is a village and a small port on the Cres island in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County in western Croatia, population 60 (2011 census). Osor lies at a narrow channel that separates islands Cres and Lošinj. The channel was built in Roman times to make sailing possible. Now the islands are connected with a rotating bridge. Originally Cres and Lošinj were one island, Osor, before the channel was cut. History The first settlements of the area date in the prehistoric times. In Roman times, Osor, then called Apsoros ( grc, Ἄψωρος), also used to refer to the whole island of Lošinj, was an important center of trade on the route to the ports of Northern Adriatic.
