Osman Awad Hashi
Osman Awad Hashi (), as known as Osman Dacas (), was 2nd chief of staff of the Somaliland Armed Forces. Biography Osman Dacas is from the Habr Je'lo clan. Activities at SNM Osman Dacas was in charge of the eastern area during his Somali National Movement (SNM) days. He joined the occupation battle in Burco. After the foundation of Somaliland In 1994, a land dispute arose between Osman Dacas and Muse Bihi Abdi, then Minister of the Interior. Muse Bihi Abdi claimed that his land was taken during the civil war. In 1996 Osman Dacas became commander of the Somaliland Armed Forces. However, it was replaced by Hassan Yonis Habane in October 1996. In February 2016, Osman Dacas was named by the president as one of seven people who had distinguished themselves in the military at a ceremony marking the 22nd anniversary of the founding of the Somaliland Armed Forces. Hargeisa
Hargeisa ( ; ; ) is the capital and largest city of the Republic of Somaliland, a ''List of states with limited recognition, de facto'' sovereign state in the Horn of Africa, still considered internationally to be part of Somalia. Hassan Ali Abokor
Hassan Ali Abokor () was first chief of staff of the Somaliland Armed Forces. As of 2024, he is the only national military commander who is not Habr Awal branch. Biography Hassan Ali Abokor is from the Habr Je'lo branch of the Isaaq clan. On May 27 1988, he was one of the Somali National Movement (SNM) commanders, along with Mohamed Kahin Ahmed and Axmed Mirre, when the SNM captured Burco. Later, Adan Salebaan (Ma-Gube) became army commander and Hassan Ali Abokor became deputy commander. Hassan Yonis Habane () was a chief of staff of the Somaliland Armed Forces. As one of the commanders of the SNM, the predecessor of Somaliland, he won many battles and was one of the initiators of Somaliland's independence. Biography He was born in Djibouti in 1950 to Yoonis Habane and Caasha Ismaaciil Madar. His clan is the Jibril Aboqor clan of Habr Awal. He studied at the elementary and secondary schools of Biyo dhacay in Hargeisa. He entered high school in Burao in 1968 and studied there for three years. At the same school was Mohamed Kahin Ahmed. In 1972 he joined the army in Kismayo and was sent to Russia in 1973. He studied at the Military University in Odesa, Soviet Union. He returned to Somalia in the spring of 1975. The Habr Je'lo (), , Full Name: ''Mūsa ibn ash-Shaykh Isḥāq ibn Aḥmad,'' historically known as the Habr Toljaala () is a major Northern Somali clan of the wider Isaaq family. Its members form the Habr Habusheed () confederation along with the Imran, Sanbur and Tolje’lo. The Habr Je'lo are divided into five further sub-tribes: the Mohamed Abokor, Musa Abokor, Samane Abokor, Reer dood and Omar. The Somali National Movement (, ) was one of the first and most important Guerrilla warfare, organized guerilla groups and Mujahideen groups that opposed the Siad Barre regime in the 1980s to the 1990s, as well as being the main anti-government faction during the Somaliland War of Independence. Burco
Burao, also spelt Bur'o or Bur'ao (; , , ), is the capital of the Togdheer region and the second largest city in Somaliland. Burao was the site of the declaration of an independent Somaliland on 18 May 1991. Etymology The word ''burco'' describes open, elevated land which has soft/rich soil, with the Burao area being considered fertile. History The city originated as a well named Ceel-Gooni in the late 18th century used by nomads from the surrounding area. The town subsequently grew around the well. Muse Bihi Abdi
Musa Bihi Abdi (, ; born 16 June 1948) is a Somaliland politician and former military officer who served as the 5th President of Somaliland from 2017 to 2024. During the 1970s, he served as a pilot in the Somali Air Force under the Siad Barre administration. In 2010, Bihi was appointed the chairman of the ruling Kulmiye party in Somaliland. General Nuh Ismail Tani () is the former chief of staff of the Somaliland Armed Forces. He was replaced on 23 January 2025 by Lieutenant General Nimcaan Yusuf Osman (Gahnug).
