Oskar Edlund
Oskar Edlund (born 16 November 2002) is a Swedish hurdler specializing in the 400 metres hurdles. He was for a moment the gold medalist at the 2021 World U20 Championships, but he was later disqualified due to a protest. Career Though Edlund began competing in athletics in 2015, he did not debut in the 400 metres hurdles until 2019. After winning the Swedish U20 championships in the shorter 300 m hurdles, Edlund qualified to represent Sweden at the 2019 European Youth Olympic Festival. At the festival, Edlund won the gold medal in the 400 m hurdles and a silver in the Swedish medley relay. Edlund finished his 2019 season by winning the Finnkampen U18 race in the 300 m hurdles. His time of 37.09 was a new championship record, despite knocking over a hurdle and leaping over the finish line in a manner described as similar to that of Charles Paddock. Athletics is a group of sporting events that involves competitive running, jumping and throwing. The most common types of athletics competitions are track and field, road running, cross country running, cross-country running, and racewalking. Hurdler
Hurdling is the act of jumping over an obstacle at a high speed or in a sprint. In the early 19th century, hurdlers ran at and jumped over each hurdle (sometimes known as 'burgles'), landing on both feet and checking their forward motion. Today, the dominant step patterns are the 3-step for high hurdles, 7-step for low hurdles, and 15-step for intermediate hurdles. Hurdling is a highly specialized form of obstacle racing, and is part of the sport of athletics. In hurdling events, barriers known as hurdles are set at precisely measured heights and distances. Each athlete must pass over the hurdles; passing under or intentionally knocking over hurdles will result in disqualification. The European Athletics U23 Championships is a biennial Sport of athletics, athletics competition for European athletes Under 23 (athletics), under the age of 23, which is organized by the European Athletic Association. The oldest of the 'age-group' track and field events held by European Athletics – European Athletics U20 Championships (previously called 'Junior Championships') are held in the same odd numbered years, while the European Athletics U18 Championships, previously the 'Youth Championships' are held in even numbered years. World Athletics U20 Championships
The World Athletics U20 Championships is a biennial world championships for the sport of athletics organised by the World Athletics, contested by athletes in the under-20 athletics age category (19 years old or younger on 31 December in the year of the competition. The competition was launched as the IAAF World Junior Championships in Athletics in 1986 and renamed to IAAF World U20 Championships in November 2015. The current name was adapted with the name change of the sports governing body in 2019. Anneisha McLaughlin-Whilby is the most successful athlete at the championships, having won one gold and four silver in individual and relay sprinting events between 2000 and 2004.
