Osh Agabi
Oshiorenoya Eghierua Agabi, simply referred to as Osh. (born 1979), is a Nigerians, Nigerian-Swiss-American physicist, computational neuroscientist, bioengineer, and entrepreneur. Osh. is the CEO of Koniku Inc., a Silicon Valley-based synthetic biotechnology company he founded in 2015. Koniku Inc. designs and builds “smell cyborgs” or “smell processors” known as the Konikore. Konikore detects, analyzes, and outputs digital data concerning a wide range of smells. The underlying technology is a hybrid of bioengineered neurons and cells and Field-programmable gate array, FPGA technology. Born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, Osh. exhibited a keen interest in science from a young age. Osh. did his PhD studies in physics and computational neuroscience at the ETH Zurich, ETH Zürich in Switzerland. Neurodegenerative Disease
A neurodegenerative disease is caused by the progressive loss of neurons, in the process known as neurodegeneration. Neuronal damage may also ultimately result in their death. Neurodegenerative diseases include amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, Huntington's disease, multiple system atrophy, tauopathies, and prion diseases. Neurodegeneration can be found in the brain at many different levels of neuronal circuitry, ranging from molecular to systemic. Lateral Geniculate Nucleus
In neuroanatomy, the lateral geniculate nucleus (LGN; also called the lateral geniculate body or lateral geniculate complex) is a structure in the thalamus and a key component of the mammalian visual pathway. In neuroanatomy, thalamocortical radiations, also known as thalamocortical fibers, are the efferent fibers that project from the thalamus to distinct areas of the cerebral cortex. They form fiber bundles that emerge from the lateral surface of the thalamus. Structure Thalamocortical fibers (TC fibers) have been referred to as one of the two constituents of the isothalamus, the other being microneurons. Two-photon excitation microscopy (TPEF or 2PEF) is a fluorescence imaging technique that is particularly well-suited to image scattering living tissue of up to about one millimeter in thickness. Unlike traditional fluorescence microscopy, where the excitation wavelength is shorter than the emission wavelength, two-photon excitation requires simultaneous excitation by two photons with longer wavelength than the emitted light. The laser is focused onto a specific location in the tissue and scanned across the sample to sequentially produce the image.
