''Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants v Osborne'' [1910] AC 87 is a UK labour law case, which ruled that it was unlawful (''ultra vires'' - beyond their legal powers) for trade unions to use funds raised from their subscriptions for political purposes (including funding the Labour Party or Labour candidates). Facts Osborne, a member of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants for 16 years in Walthamstow, alleged that the union's creation of a political fund to support the British Labour Party#Labour Representation Committee, Labour Representation Committee in elections was done irregularly in breach of union procedure. The Trade Disputes and Trade Unions Act 1927 ( 17 & 18 Geo. 5. c. 22) was a British act of Parliament passed in response to the General Strike of 1926, introduced by the Attorney General for England and Wales, Sir Douglas Hogg MP. Trade Union Act 2016
The Trade Union Act 2016 (c. 15) is an Act of Parliament that amended the Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992. It forms part of the UK's labour law. Passed during the second Cameron ministry, it was fiercely opposed by all UK trade unions. Alan Bogg, professor of labour law at the University of Oxford, described the act as authoritarian. Contents Section 2 of the Act introduced a new requirement of 50% of union members to vote in a ballot for strike action. It amended TULRCA 1992 section 226(2). Section 3 requires that workers in important services (health, school education, fire, transport, nuclear decommissioning and border security) must gain at least 40% support of those entitled to vote in a workplace for a strike to be legal. It amended TULRCA by adding new subsections 226(2A)–(2F). The Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992 (c. 52) is a UK act of Parliament which regulates United Kingdom labour law. The act applies in full in England and Wales and in Scotland, and partially in Northern Ireland. The law contained in the act (TULRCA 1992) has existed in more or less the same form since the Trade Disputes Act 1906.
