Osborn Maitland Miller Medal
The Osborn Maitland Miller Cartographic Medal was established in 1968 by the American Geographical Society Council. The Osborn Maitland Miller Cartographic Medal honors "outstanding contributions in the field of cartography or geodesy". History Osborn Maitland Miller's forty-six year career with the American Geographical Society was only one of the many accomplishments of his career. While on staff, Miller headed, researched, and taught at the American Geographical Society’s School of Surveying, specializing in photogrammetry and cartography. He developed the Miller cylindrical projection in 1942, and completed many other aerial photography and surveying projects. Maidarjavyn Ganzorig
Maidarjavyn Ganzorig ( mn, Майдаржавын Ганзориг; 5 February 1949 – 4 July 2021) was a Mongolian cosmonaut and academic. In 1978, he participated in the Soviet Intercosmos program and trained for the Soyuz 39 mission. Biography Ganzorig was born in Tsetserleg, Arkhangai in 1949, finishing his secondary education in 1968. He studied at Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, earning a degree in heating and precision automated devices maintenance, graduating in 1975. In 1978, he was selected as the backup to Jügderdemidiin Gürragchaa for the Soyuz 39 mission, who would become the first Mongolian in space. In 1984, he received a Candidate of Technical Sciences degree. Cynthia A. Brewer is an American professor of geography at the Pennsylvania State University, Pennsylvania, and author. She has worked as a map and atlas design consultant for the U.S. Census Bureau, National Cancer Institute, National Center for Health Statistics, and National Park Service. She teaches courses in introductory cartography and map design. Her specialism relates to visibility and color theory in cartography. Brian A McClendon (born 1964) is an American software executive, engineer, and inventor. He was a co-founder and angel investor in Keyhole, Inc., a geospatial data visualization company that was purchased by Google in 2004 to produce Google Earth. Keyhole itself was spun off from another company called Intrinsic Graphics, of which McClendon was also a co-founder. McClendon was elected a member of the National Academy of Engineering in 2015 for strategic, technical, and managerial leadership resulting in widespread accurate and useful geographic information. The American Geographical Society (AGS) is an organization of professional geographers, founded in 1851 in New York City. Most fellows of the society are Americans, but among them have always been a significant number of fellows from around the world.
