The Osaka Municipal Fire Department (Japanese: 大阪市消防局, Hepburn: ''Ōsaka-shi'' ''Shōbōkyoku'') is the fire department of Osaka City, Japan. History and medallion The first organized firefighting service in Osaka was established in 1634, when four hikeshi brigades were formed in the city, one professional and four volunteer; many of the members of the volunteer brigades worked in construction, as the primary way of preventing fire spreading in the dense wooden housing districts was to tear houses down to create firebreaks. However, in 1869 following the Meiji Restoration, 10 new professional fire brigades with around 500 firefighters between them were formed in the city; not long after however the local police took control of the fire brigade in 1880. 2021 Osaka Building Fire
On 17 December 2021, a fire occurred in a psychiatric clinic located on the fourth floor of the Dojima Kita Building in Kita-ku, Osaka, Japan. The fire is suspected to have been started deliberately. It killed 26 people and injured another. On 30 December, the suspect, 61-year-old Morio Tanimoto, died of injuries sustained in the fire. Osaka Movie Theatre Fire
On 1 October 2008 at around 3 a.m., an adult video arcade in Osaka was set on fire deliberately. As a result, sixteen victims died and nine more were injured. Incident The fire took place at an adult video arcade in Nanba, Osaka. The business, called Cats, rented out 32 small rooms, which cost $15 a night (or ¥1500), according to the New York Times. There were 26 customers and three employees in the store when the fire began. Some 120 firefighters fought the blaze and extinguished it in 90 minutes. The theatre rooms, each equipped with a cot, were used as a cheap hotel by customers. The rooms in the video store were located in a narrow hallway with only a single exit via the reception. Sennichi Department Store Building Fire
The Sennichi Department Store Building fire occurred in Sennichimae, Minami-ku (now Chuo-ku, Osaka, Chuo-ku), Osaka, Japan on May 13, 1972. The fire killed at least 118 people and injured another 78. It was the deadliest department store fire in Japan. The building that housed the department store also contained various other businesses, including a cabaret. All of the victims had been in the cabaret. The Tenroku gas explosion (天六ガス爆発事故, ''Tenroku gasu bakuhatsu jiko'') occurred at approximately 5:47 pm on 8 April 1970 in Osaka, Japan, when a gas leak during construction at Tenjimbashisuji Rokuchōme Station in downtown Osaka resulted in a massive explosion and fire that killed 79 people, injured 420 others, and damaged 495 buildings.
