Original Bible Project
The Original Bible Project is a project to produce a re-ordered new translation of the Bible into English led by James Tabor. The Project is a non-profit organisation. The translation is expected to eventually be published under the name ''Transparent English Bible'' (TEB). The project was advertised as early as 1992 in the back of the ''Bible Review'' of the Biblical Archaeology Society, and an article ''Genesis Translation of the Transparent English Bible'' appeared in the liberal arts magazine of Augustana College in 2006. and has also been mentioned in book jacket biographies of Dr. Tabor. The Project's aim is to produce a new version, the Transparent English Bible (TEB). Modern English Bible Translations
Modern English Bible translations consists of translations developed and published throughout the late modern period () to present-day (). A multitude of recent attempts have been made to translate the Bible into English. Most modern translations published since are based on scholarly critical editions of the original Hebrew and Greek texts. Recent translations typically rely on the ''Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia'' / ''Biblia Hebraica Quinta'', counterparted by the ''Novum Testamentum Graece'' (and the ''Greek New Testament'', published by the United Bible Societies, which contains the same text). With regard to the use of Bible translations among biblical scholarship, the New Revised Standard Version is used broadly, but the English Standard Version is emerging as a primary text of choice among biblical scholars and theologians inclined toward theological conservatism. James Tabor
James Daniel Tabor (born 1946 in Texas) is a Biblical scholar and Professor of Ancient Judaism and Early Christianity in the Department of Religious Studies at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where he has taught since 1989 and served as Chair from 2004–14. He previously held positions at Ambassador College (1968–70 while a student at Pepperdine University), the University of Notre Dame (1979–85), and the College of William and Mary (1985–89). Tabor is the founder and director of the Original Bible Project, a non-profit organisation aimed to produce a re-ordered new translation of the Bible in English. He retired in 2022. Augustana College is a private Lutheran college in Rock Island, Illinois. The college enrolls approximately 2,500 students. Its campus is adjacent to the Mississippi River and covers of hilly, wooded land. The Book of Genesis (from Greek ; Hebrew: בְּרֵאשִׁית ''Bəreʾšīt'', "In hebeginning") is the first book of the Hebrew Bible and the Christian Old Testament. ELOHIM
''Elohim'' (: ), the plural of (), is a Hebrew word meaning "gods". Although the word is plural, in the Hebrew Bible it usually takes a singular verb and refers to a single deity, particularly (but not always) the God of Israel. At other times it refers to deities in the plural. Morphologically, the word is the plural form of the word '' eloah'' and related to '' el''. It is cognate to the word ''l-h-m'' which is found in Ugaritic, where it is used as the pantheon for Canaanite gods, the children of El, and conventionally vocalized as "Elohim".
