Oregon Ducks Baseball
The Oregon Ducks baseball team represents the University of Oregon in NCAA Division I college baseball in the Big Ten Conference. The home games are played on campus at PK Park. History Oregon played its first baseball game in 1877 and established the program in 1885. The UO team made one College World Series appearance, in 1954 NCAA Baseball Tournament#College World Series, 1954, and was eliminated from the tournament after losing to Arizona Wildcats baseball, Arizona and UMass Minutemen baseball, Massachusetts. Big Ten Conference
The Big Ten Conference (stylized B1G, formerly the Western Conference and the Big Nine Conference, among others) is a collegiate List of NCAA conferences, athletic conference in the United States. Founded as the Intercollegiate Conference of Faculty Representatives in 1896, it predates the founding of its regulating organization, the NCAA; it is the oldest NCAA Division I conference in the country. It is based in the Chicago area in Rosemont, Illinois. For many decades the conference consisted of ten prominent universities, which accounts for its name. 2007 Oregon State Beavers Baseball Team
The 2007 Oregon State Beavers baseball team represented Oregon State University in the 2007 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Beavers played their home games at Goss Stadium. The team was coached by Pat Casey in his 13th season at Oregon State. The Beavers won the College World Series, defeating the North Carolina Tar Heels in the championship series, for the second consecutive year. Minor League Baseball (MiLB) is a professional baseball organization below Major League Baseball (MLB), constituted of teams affiliated with MLB clubs. It was founded on September 5, 1901, in response to the growing dominance of the National League (baseball), National League and American League, as the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues (NAPBL or NA). Minor League Baseball originated as simply the organization of lower tiers of professional baseball in the United States, comprising clubs that lacked the financial means to compete with the National League and later the American League. Autzen Stadium
Autzen Stadium is an outdoor football stadium in Eugene, Oregon, United States. Located north of the University of Oregon campus, it is the home field of the Oregon Ducks of the Big Ten Conference. Opened in 1967, the stadium has undergone several expansions. The official seating capacity is presently 54,000 to 60,000 (with SRO); however, the actual attendance regularly exceeds that figure. Collegiate Club Sports
Collegiate club sports in the United States are any sports offered at a university or college in the United States that compete competitively with other universities, or colleges, but are not regulated by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) or National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), and do not have varsity status. Collegiate club sports can exist at schools that do have teams that are part of the NCAA or NAIA. Many times, club sports are student-run and receive little financial aid from the school. An estimated 2 million student athletes compete in club sports. Typically, most sports offered at universities and offered in youth leagues are also available as a collegiate club team. Jane Sanders Stadium
Jane Sanders Stadium, nicknamed "The Jane", is an outdoor softball stadium in Eugene, Oregon, United States. Located on the south side of the University of Oregon (UO) campus at 18th and University, it is the home field of the Oregon Ducks of the Big Ten Conference. Robert C. "Bob" Sanders donated more than $16 million to build the stadium, a memorial to his late wife Jane Sanders, who had been a longtime fan of Ducks softball. Former Ducks softball coach Becky Sisley matched other donations, up to $200,000. The total cost of the stadium was $17.2 million. Pacific Coast Conference
The Pacific Coast Conference (PCC) was a collegiate athletic conference in the United States which existed from 1915 to 1959. Though the Pac-12 Conference claims the PCC's history as part of its own, with eight of the ten PCC members (including all four original PCC charter members) in the Pac-12 for many years, the older league had a completely different charter and was disbanded in 1959 due to a major crisis and scandal. McArthur Court
McArthur Court is a basketball arena located on the campus of the University of Oregon in Eugene and the former home of the Oregon Ducks men's and women's basketball teams, replaced in 2011 by Matthew Knight Arena. Also known as "The Pit" or "Mac Court," it was known as one of the most hostile arenas in the nation. The arena is named for Clifton N. (Pat) McArthur, U. S. Congressman and Oregon student-athlete and the school's first student body president. Its unique and antiquated structure has the fans on top of the court. The LSU Tigers baseball team represents Louisiana State University in NCAA Division I college baseball. The team participates in of the Southeastern Conference. The Purdue Boilermakers baseball team is the varsity intercollegiate baseball program of Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, United States. The program's first season was in 1888, and it has been a member of the NCAA Division I Big Ten Conference since the start of the 1906 season. George Horton (baseball Coach)
George Edward Horton (born October 5, 1953) is an American college baseball coach. He was head coach of the Oregon Ducks baseball and Cal State Fullerton Titans baseball programs. Playing career Horton was born and raised in Downey, California and graduated from Downey High School in 1971. He played on the Cerritos College baseball team in 1972 and 1973 under coach Wally Kincaid. Horton then played two seasons under head coach Augie Garrido at Cal State Fullerton in 1975 and 1976. He was on the Fullerton team that made the school's first appearance in the College World Series in 1975. Coaching career Horton began his coaching career the same place he began his collegiate playing career, Cerritos College. He coached there for two seasons before moving onto Los Angeles Valley College. From there he went back to Cerritos College as an assistant before eventually becoming the head coach.
