Ordinul Republicii
The Order of the Republic () is Moldova's highest order. It is awarded by the President of Moldova for exceptional merits in all fields which benefit Moldova and humanity as a whole. The order was established in July 1992 and its collar and badge are made from silver. A recipient cannot receive the award twice. The next (lower) award is the Order of Stephen the Great. Anatol Codru
Anatol Codru (1 May 1936 – 17 August 2010) was a writer and film director from Moldova. He was the head of the Union of Cinematographers of Moldova and a leader of the Democratic Forum of Romanians in Moldova. Biography Anatol Codru was born to Ion Condrea and Titiana Stăncuţă on May 1, 1936, in Molovata Nouă. He graduated from Moldova State University in 1963. Since 1998, he has been the head of the Union of Cinematographers of Moldova. Nicolae Juravschi
Nicolae Juravschi (given name also transliterated Nikolai, Nikolaï, or Nikolay and surname Juravski, Juravskiy, Yuravskiy, or Zhuravsky; born 8 August 1964) is a Moldovan politician and former canoe sprinter. He won three Olympic medals in the C-2 event with his teammate Viktor Reneysky. In the Soviet era Juravschi trained at the Armed Forces (sports society), Armed Forces sports society in Kishinev (now Chișinău), Moldova. The pair won two gold medals at the 1988 Summer Olympics, as competitors for the USSR. In the next three years Juravschi won a total of eight ICF Flatwater Racing World Championships, world championship gold medals in the C-2 and C-4 events. Leonida Lari
Leonida Lari (26 October 1949 – 11 December 2011) was a Moldovan poet, journalist, and politician who advocated for the reunion of Bessarabia with Romania. She published 24 volumes of poetry and prose and was a prolific translator of key works from world literature into Romanian. Life and career Leonida Lari was born on 26 October 1949 in Bursuceni, Moldovan SSR, one of the former Soviet Socialist Republics of the Soviet Union. Her parents, Ion and Nadejda Tuchilatu, were teachers. Lari had a younger brother, Leonard Tuchilatu, also a poet, who died when he was only 24 of kidney failure after being exposed to radiation while serving in the Soviet army. Ion Hadârcă
Ion Hadârcă (born 17 August 1949) is a poet, translator and Moldovan politician, deputy to the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova between 1990 and 1998 and from 2009 to 2014. Ion Hadârcă was the founder and first president of the Popular Front of Moldova (1989–1992), chairman of the Liberal Reformist Party. Anatol Ciobanu
Anatol Ciobanu (14 May 1934 – 8 April 2016) was a Moldovan professor and researcher. He was head of the Department of Romanian language at Moldova State University, a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, and a leader of the Democratic Forum of Romanians in Moldova. Grigore Vieru
Grigore Vieru (; 14 February 1935 – 18 January 2009) was a Moldovans, Moldovan poet, writer and unification of Moldova and Romania, unionist advocate, known for his poems and books for children. His poetry is characterized by vivid natural scenery, patriotism, as well as a venerated image of the sacred mother. Vieru wrote in the Romanian language. In 1993 he was elected a correspondent member of the Romanian Academy. Spiridon Vangheli
Spiridon Vangheli (14 June 1932 – 21 June 2024) was a Moldovan writer of children's books, poet, and translator. Life and career Vangheli was born in Grinăuţi, Romania on 14 June 1932. He graduated from Ion Creangă State Pedagogical University in 1955, and after various jobs in schools, including as math professor, he joined the Moldovan Writers' Union and became a consulting editor. His publishing debut was in 1962, with a book for children titled ''In the Land of Butterflies.'' His books have been translated into 40 languages. Vangheli died in Chișinău on 21 June 2024, at the age of 92. Legacy His most characteristic work is a series of children's books about the adventures of Guguță, a boy who received from his father a large traditional lamb skin hat that became an inseparable attribute. Nicolae Dabija (writer)
Nicolae Dabija (15 July 1948 – 12 March 2021) was a writer, literary historian, and politician from the Republic of Moldova, honorary member of the Romanian Academy (from 2003) and corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova (from 2012). Biography Dabija was born on 15 July 1948 in Codreni village, Cimișlia, at the time in the Moldavian SSR of the Soviet Union. Of Romanian nationality and Orthodox religion, he was the nephew of the archimandrite Serafim Dabija, a Romanian confessor deported to a Gulag camp in 1947. In 1966 he enrolled at the journalism faculty of the State University of Moldova.
