Nuccio Ordine (; 18 July 1958 – 10 June 2023) was an Italian literary critic who was professor of Italian literature at the University of Calabria. He was one of the world's top experts on the Renaissance and the philosopher Giordano Bruno. Life and career Ordine was a fellow of the Harvard University Center for Studies of the Italian Renaissance and of the Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung. He taught at the American universities of Yale and New York, and at the European universities EHESS, Ecole Normale Supérieure Paris, Paris-IV Sorbonne, Paris-III Sorbonne-Nouvelle, CESR of Tours, Institut Universitaire de France, Paris-VIII Vincennes, Institut des Études Avancées de Paris, Warburg Institute and Eichstätt University. Diamante, Calabria
Diamante ("diamond"; Calabrian: ) is a coastal town and ''comune'' in the province of Cosenza, part of the Calabria region of southern Italy. The Diamante citron takes its name from the town, and Calabria is still the home of this variety of citron. Chili Peppers Festival Each year in early September Diamante hosts festival celebrating the local produce, peperoncino (chili pepper). Among the other products one can find the Calabrese Bomba made from as dried strings of chili peppers which have been infused into olive oil and mixed with other vegetables and mushrooms. The festival is a major event for the small town as it attracts a large number of tourists from all over the world. Bompiani
Bompiani is an Italian publishing house based in Milan. It was founded in 1929 by Valentino Bompiani. In 1990, Bompiani became part of the RCS MediaGroup. It was sold in 2015 to the Giunti Group. It is widely regarded as one of the leading literary publishing houses in Italy. History Bompiani experienced attempts at book censorship by Italian Fascism, Italy's fascist government from the 1920s through the 1940s. In 1940, Valentino Bompiani was summoned to Rome to meet with Alessandro Pavolini, the Ministry of Popular Culture, Minister of Popular Culture. At this meeting, Pavolini told Bompiani that he must limit the number of translations that he was publishing. Paul Oskar Kristeller
Paul Oskar Kristeller (May 22, 1905 in Berlin – June 7, 1999 in New York, United States) was a scholar of Renaissance humanism. He was awarded the Haskins Medal in 1992. He was last active as Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at Columbia University in New York, where he mentored both Irving Louis Horowitz and A. James Gregor. Life and career During his university years he studied with Werner Jaeger, Heinrich Rickert, Richard Kroner, Karl Hampe, Friedrich Baethgen, Eduard Norden, and Ulrich von Wilamowitz-Moellendorff. He also attended lectures by noted philosophers such as Ernst Cassirer, Edmund Husserl, and Karl Jaspers. In 1928, he earned his doctorate from the University of Heidelberg under Ernst Hoffmann with a dissertation on Plotinus. He did postdoctoral work at the universities of Berlin and Freiburg. Pierre Hadot
Pierre Hadot (; ; 21 February 1922 – 24 April 2010) was a French philosopher and historian of philosophy specializing in ancient philosophy, particularly Neoplatonism, Epicureanism and Stoicism. Life In 1944, Hadot was ordained, but following Pope Pius XII's encyclical ''Humani generis'' (1950) left the priesthood. The Order of Merit of the Italian Republic () is the most senior Italian order of merit. It was established in 1951 by the second President of the Italian Republic, Luigi Einaudi.
