Orange Party
The Orange Party (, ORANGE) is a political party in the Comoros led by Mohamed Daoudou. History The party first contested national elections in the 2015 parliamentary elections, when it received 6% of the vote, but failed to win a seat. The party nominated Daoudou as its candidate for the 2016 presidential elections, in which he finished seventh out of 25 candidates with 4% of the vote. The Comoros,, ' officially the Union of the Comoros,; ar, الاتحاد القمري ' is an List of sovereign states by date of formation, independent country made up of three islands in Southeast Africa, southeastern Africa, located at the northern end of the Mozambique Channel in the Indian Ocean. Its capital and largest city is Moroni, Comoros, Moroni. The religion of the majority of the population, and the official state religion, is Sunni Islam. 2016 Comorian Presidential Election
Presidential elections were held in the Comoros on 21 February 2016, with a second round to be held on 10 April 2016, alongside elections for the Governors of the three islands. A re-run of the second round was held in thirteen constituencies on Anjouan on 11 May. Azali Assoumani of the Convention for the Renewal of the Comoros was elected President with 41% of the vote. Electoral system The presidency of the Comoros rotates between the country's three main islands; Anjouan, Grande Comore and Mohéli. The 2006 elections were limited to candidates from Anjouan and the 2010 elections to Mohélian candidates. As a result, the 2016 elections will see presidential candidacy limited to Grande Comore residents. 2020 Comorian Legislative Election
Legislative elections were held in the Comoros on 19 January 2020; in constituencies where no candidate received a majority, a second round was held alongside local elections on 23 February. The unicameral Assembly of the Union of the Comoros is the country's legislative body. It was established in 2004. Legislative history The Comorian legislative body, Chamber of Deputies, was established in 1961. It was reconstituted as National Assembly in July 1975. It was followed by the Federal Assembly, which had 33-43 members before year 2004. The name Assembly of the Union was taken into use in 2004. Since 2020, it has had 24 members instead of 33.
