Orange County Soccer Club
Orange County Soccer Club was a Greater Los Angeles team active in the mid 1960s in a league called the Continental League. One of the highlights of its existence included an international match with Bayern Munich of Germany played on June 10, 1966 at Santa Ana Stadium in which the clubs played to a 3-3 tie. In 2014, local soccer supporter Blaine Jenks, a founder of an Orange County Blues FC supporter group called the County Line Coalition, discovered information of the match between OCSC and Bayern Munich. In 1966, the Orange County Soccer Club played the final of the national tournament, the National Challenge Cup (now called the U.S. Open Cup), and played it again in 1967, but was unable to become champion on both occasions. Santa Ana Stadium
Santa Ana Stadium, also known as Eddie West Field or the Santa Ana Bowl, is a city-owned and operated 9,000-capacity American football and soccer stadium located in downtown Santa Ana. The field was named after Eddie West, a writer for the Orange County Register and tireless supporter of the Santa Ana College Dons and all Orange County sports. The city's stadium holds many events in addition to its high school and college football main draws, including children's and adult soccer games through local leagues, high school and college commencement ceremonies and more. Orange County Soccer Club is an American soccer team based in the Orange County, California city of Irvine. Founded in 2010 as the Los Angeles Blues, the team currently plays in the Western Conference of the USL Championship, the second tier of the American soccer system. Bayardo Abaunza is a Nicaraguan-American former soccer player who spent his career with amateur teams in the Los Angeles area and earned three caps with the U.S. national team between 1965 and 1969. Club career Abaunza, the older brother of Manuel Abaunza, moved to Los Angeles in the late 1950s. On May 6, 1960, he scored a goal for the Los Angeles All Stars in an 8–1 defeat at the hands of visiting Munich 1860. Manuel Abaunza
Manuel Abaunza is a Nicaraguan-American former soccer inside right who played one season in the National Professional Soccer League. In 1960, Abaunza, the younger brother of Bayardo Abaunza, played for Vizcoya in Costa Rica. He moved to Los Angeles in 1961 where he joined the Los Angeles Kickers, an amateur team in the Greater Los Angeles League. In 1964, the Kickers won the 1964 National Challenge Cup over the Philadelphia Ukrainians. Abaunza scored in the first game, a 2–2 tie. The Kickers then won the return leg 2–0 to take the title. Warner Mata is an American former soccer midfielder who earned seven caps with the U.S. national team between 1969 and 1973. He is listed as Walner Mata in some sources.
