Oradea Prison
Oradea Prison is a prison located in Oradea, Romania. Situated in the city center, the prison building dates to 1852. It was bought by the city hall in 1865 and donated to the Kingdom of Hungary, Hungarian state in 1896. Various annexes were added in the 1880s, and repairs undertaken between 1880 and 1920. The building has three thick-walled wings made of brick with tile roofs. Two, on two levels each, form an L shape, while the third, which has three levels and contains the cells, links them.Muraru, pp. 410-11 Until 1944, the prison held both common criminals and political prisoners, a status it retained following the establishment of a Romanian Communist Party-led government in 1945.
