Opposition (Tasmania)
The Opposition in the Australian state of Tasmania comprises the largest party not in Government. The Opposition's purpose is to hold the Government to account and constitute a "Government-in-waiting" should the existing Government fall. To that end, a Leader of the Opposition and Shadow Ministers for the various government departments question the Premier and Ministers on Government policy and administration, and formulate the policy the Opposition would pursue in Government. It is sometimes styled " His Majesty's Loyal Opposition" to demonstrate that although it opposes the Government, it remains loyal to the King. The current Leader of the Opposition is Labor Leader Dean Winter and Anita Dow is the Deputy Leader. Current shadow ministry The most recent shadow ministry was announced on 13 July 2021. Shane Broad
Shane Thomas Broad (born 21 August 1974) is an Australian politician; a five-time national champion and Australian representative rower; and an agricultural scientist. Early life Broad grew up on a farm at Gawler, attended Ulverstone Primary School, Ulverstone High School and Don College. He was also an exchange student to the Faroe Islands with AFS. Michelle Anne O'Byrne (born 6 March 1968) is an Australian politician for the Australian Labor Party, Labor Party and from 2024 until 2025, served as Speaker of the Tasmanian House of Assembly. She was elected to the House of Representatives at the 2025 federal election, representing the Australian Labor Party (ALP) and the Tasmanian seat of Lyons.
