Operosa
Operosa is an annual classical music and opera festival. Devoted mainly to opera, it also includes concerts of orchestral, chamber, vocal and solo instrumental music. Operosa is active in the Balkan region with the main festival event in Herceg Novi in Montenegro. History Operosa was founded by Finnish mezzo-soprano Katherine Haataja in 2006. It was founded with the purpose of promoting young opera and classical music talent and actively providing production work opportunities to young artists. The first open air opera festival was launched in June 2007 in Varna, Bulgaria in the open air of the Euxinograd castle garden with the opera Don Giovanni by W.A. Mozart. The following year festival performances were held in Sofia at the Ivan Vazov National Theatre. Operosa returned to Euxinograd in 2009 and 2010 with performances of La Voix Humaine by Francis Poulenc, and Roméo et Juliette by Charles Gounod. Katherine Haataja
Katherine Elina Haataja (née Hannikainen; February 16, 1969) is a Finnish-Swedish mezzo-soprano and entrepreneur, known for her work advocating for young opera artists. She is a descendant of the Hannikainen family of composers and writers, Pietari Hannikainen was her third great grandfather. Life and career Haataja was born in Olofström in Sweden to a Swedish mother and Finnish father. She grew up in Helsinki in Finland and then studied vocal performance at the Paris conservatory and at Trinity College London. She started her career as opera singer but stopped when she became ill with breast cancer. Haataja performed in different opera houses in Europe and her roles included Cherubino in ''Le Nozze di Figaro'', Zerlina in ''Don Giovanni'', Annius in ''La clemenza di Tito'' by W.A. Opera Festival
This is an inclusive list of opera festivals and summer opera seasons, and music festivals which have opera productions. Kanli Kula
Kanli Kula is a fortress with an open-air amphitheater in Herceg Novi, Montenegro. The name is of Turkish language, Turkish origin, and means "bloody tower". History Kanli Kula was built by the Turks in 1539. The Venetians made various repairs and additions in 1687, soon after conquering Herceg Novi. Inside the castle there was a well preserved water cistern. At some stage it lost its original purpose and became a prison, and was thereafter called “Bloody Tower“. The inmates left multiple drawings on the walls of the prison. The depicted ships were in service in 16th and 17th centuries, which allowed historians to date the founding of the prison. Cultural events The inside of the Kanli Tower was restored into an open-air amphitheater in 1966. It seats over 1000 spectators, and has hosted many cultural events and festivals. Herceg Novi (Cyrillic script, Cyrillic: Херцег Нови, ) is a town in Coastal Montenegro, Coastal region of Montenegro located at the Western entrance to the Bay of Kotor and at the foot of Mount Orjen. Euxinograd
Euxinograd ( , also transliterated as ''Evksinograd'') is a late 19th-century Bulgarian former royal summer palace and park on the Black Sea coast, north of downtown Varna, Bulgaria, Varna. The palace is currently a governmental and presidential retreat, hosting cabinet meetings in the summer and offering access for tourists to several villas and hotels. Since 2007, it is also the venue of the Operosa opera festival. Euxinograd is situated at an altitude of 49 m. The park and palace were closed until the summer of 2016 due to extensive renovations.
