Opera (Çetin Alp Song)
Turkey was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 1983 with the song "Opera", composed by Buğra Uğur, with lyrics by Aysel Gürel, and performed by Çetin Alp & the Short Wave. The Turkish participating broadcaster, the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT), selected its entry through a national final. Before Eurovision The Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT) held the national final on 4 March 1983 at its studios in Ankara, hosted by Başak Doğru. Eight songs competed and the winner was determined by an expert jury. At Eurovision On the evening of the contest Alp performed 6th following and preceding . Turkish Radio And Television Corporation
The Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT; Turkish: ) is the national public broadcasting, public broadcaster of Turkey, founded in 1964. TRT was for many years the only television and radio broadcaster in Turkey. Before the introduction of commercial radio in 1990, and subsequently commercial television in 1992, it held a monopoly on broadcasting. Çetin Alp
Çetin Küçükarslan, better known by his stage name Çetin Alp (21 June 1947 – 18 May 2004), was a Turkish singer. Life He was born in Malatya. Alp married three times, the first of which was to Ergül Kuğuoğlu. From this marriage he had twin daughters Fulya and Filiz (b. 1970) and son Ahmet (b. 1976). He divorced his second wife, Şermin Küçükaslan, on 19 November 1982. His third marriage was to Suna Yıldızoğlu, which lasted for 9 years. The artist, who had a heart problem for a long time, had been angioed a few years before his death and had a stent placed in his heart, however, his treatment process was slow due to his lack of one kidney. Career His career started in the 1970s with winning the competition ''Altın Ses''. In these years, he released a Greek song that had been written by Sezen Cumhur Önal. Aysel Gürel
Gönül Aysel Gürel (7 February 1929 – 17 February 2008) was a Turkish lyricist and actress. Besides her lyrics, which were performed by singers throughout Turkey, she was known for her outlandish clothing, make up and wigs. Biography Aysel Gürel was born in 1929 in Denizli, Turkey, in the western part of the country. She graduated from Istanbul University with a faculty of literature degree. Her lyrics were performed by such noted Turkish singers as Sezen Aksu. Besides lyric writing, Gürel also worked as an actress, drama player and a Turkologist. In 2007, Gürel appeared in a Turkish television commercial for Pepsi. Gürel was admitted to Metropolitan Florence Nightingale Hospital in Istanbul in December 2007. She was reportedly ill with lung cancer. She died of chronic bronchitis at the age of 79 on 17 February 2008 in Istanbul. Ayşegül Aldinç (; born 28 September 1957) is a Turkish singer and actress. Life and career She is the daughter of journalist and sports writer Orhan Aldinç and painting teacher Süheyla Aldinç. Growing in Cihangir, Due to the works of her mother, she completed her secondary education at the schools in Taksim, Kocamustafapaşa and Feriköy districts. She finished her high school at the Sultanahmet Art School. She finished her studies at Tatbiki Fine Arts Academy Ceramic Department (now called Marmara University Faculty of Fine Arts Ceramics Department). Aydın Esen (born 1962) is a Turkish jazz musician who plays keyboards and electronics. Career The son of a trumpeter, Esen began music lessons at the age of five in Turkey and attended a music conservatory, continuing for 13 years. His background was in classical music although he also enjoyed playing drums. At the age of ten, he began sneaking out of school to play with other musicians and as a teenager he led several groups in a variety of styles. Esen first came to the United States when he was awarded a four-year scholarship to Berklee College of Music where he reportedly completed all of his classes within one year. Attila Özdemiroğlu (5 January 1943 – 20 April 2016) was a Turkish composer, arranger and music producer. He was best known for his award winning film scores in the 1970s and 1980s. Career Born on 5 January 1943 in Ankara, Özdemiroğlu got interested in playing music already in his early years. At his age of eight, he took private lessons on violin. Learning to play many music instruments such as flute, vibraphone, double bass and trombone, he participated at music events during his high school and university years. In 1966, he moved to Istanbul and joined the music band "Durul Gence 5". Later, Özdemiroğlu played in several other music groups and also for Turkish pop stars like Ajda Pekkan, Nilüfer, Kayahan and Sezen Aksu. The winner of the Eurovision Song Contest is determined by a positional voting system. The most recent version of the system was implemented in the .
