Onzlee Ware
Onzlee Ware (born January 4, 1954) is an American politician and judge. A Democrat, he was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates The Virginia House of Delegates is one of the two parts of the Virginia General Assembly, the other being the Senate of Virginia. It has 100 members elected for terms of two years; unlike most states, these elections take place during odd-numbe ... in November 2003. He formerly represented the 11th District, which is made up of part of the City of Roanoke. He also served as the Minority Caucus Sergeant at Arms. In November 2013, Ware announced his resignation from the House of Delegates, citing family issues. Ware is now the chief judge for Roanoke County Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, in the 23rd Judicial District of Virginia. Ware was sworn in on September 18, 2014. Virginia's 11th House of Delegates district elects one of the 100 members of the Virginia House of Delegates. Located in southwestern Virginia, District 11 includes part of the city of Roanoke. District 11 is represented by Democrat Sam Rasoul. Electoral history 2013 The seat has been held by Democrat Sam Rasoul since 2013. The previous incumbent Onzlee Ware resigned in late 2012 to spend time with an ailing family member, prompting a special election in January 2013. Rasoul won the low-turnout contest, in which just 14% of eligible voters participated. Rasoul earned 70% of the vote, defeating Roanoke’s Republican sheriff Octavia Johnson. The Virginia House of Delegates is one of the two parts of the Virginia General Assembly, the other being the Senate of Virginia. It has 100 members elected for terms of two years; unlike most states, these elections take place during odd-numbered years. The House is presided over by the Speaker of the House, who is elected from among the House membership by the Delegates. The Speaker is usually a member of the majority party and, as Speaker, becomes the most powerful member of the House. The House shares legislative power with the Senate of Virginia, the upper house of the Virginia General Assembly. Clifton Alexander "Chip" Woodrum III (July 23, 1938 – February 19, 2013) was a Virginia lawyer and politician. Early and family life Born in Washington, D.C. to Clifton A.
