Oniwabanshū
The or was a group of government-employed undercover agents (''onmitsu''), established by the 8th Tokugawa ''shōgun'', Tokugawa Yoshimune (1684–1751). They were under the direct command of the shōgun and were in charge of assassination of high-value targets, clandestine operation, counterintelligence, executive protection, providing security at Edo Castle areas, and undercover intelligence operations. In actuality, their work consisted more often of reporting any news about the city of Edo to the shōgun or remaining incognito to inspect and report on the states of affairs in the countryside. Their activities were comparable to those of the inspectors and general inspectors of the shogunate albeit under the direct orders from the shōgun. Shinomori Aoshi
, known in Western order as Aoshi Shinomori in the English version of the anime, is a fictional character in the ''Rurouni Kenshin'' manga series created by Nobuhiro Watsuki. Shinomori Aoshi is the genius young of the Oniwabanshū group for Edo Castle. After the Meiji Restoration Shinomori alone was offered rankings in the military, however, instead of abandoning his comrades, he decided to work with them for Takeda Kanryū. This decision leads to the death of his comrades and his defeat by the former assassin Himura Battosai from the IshinShishi, which results in driving him mad. Shinomori swears to kill Battosai at any cost in order to gain the title of "the strongest" and bestow this title upon the graves of his fallen comrades. Makimachi Misao
, in the Media Blasters dub, is a character from the fictional ''Rurouni Kenshin'' universe created by Nobuhiro Watsuki. Misao is a 16-year-old girl and the youngest member of the ninja group called Oniwabanshū. She leaves her home to find her missing leader Shinomori Aoshi, but instead she encounters with Himura Kenshin during her journey to Kyoto alone. She soon proves herself a valuable ally and temporarily makes it to the status of leader. She develops strong romantic feelings for Aoshi. Character Misao is a ''kunoichi'' (female ninja) from the Oniwabanshū clan of ''onmitsu'' ( spies/ninja) previously based in Edo. Her weapon of choice is the kunai. Yoshimune (anime)
is a Japanese anime series produced by AIC Spirits, Ginga-ya, and Gonzo and directed by Hiroaki Sato. It is based on a pachinko game by Daito Giken. Synopsis The story is set in a parallel world which combines elements of the Edo period such as samurai and the modern, such as disco halls and motorbikes.
