Oniipa
Oniipa is a town in the Oshikoto Region of northern Namibia and the district capital of the Oniipa electoral constituency. It lies just outside Ondangwa. History Oniipa was established in 1872 by the Finnish Missionary Society. In 2014 it became part of the settlement area combined with the nearby village of Onethindi. It was designated as a town in 2015. The old church hospital, the Onandjokwe Lutheran Hospital, which was named after the first female nurse, is situated in Oniipa. Today, the hospital is managed by the Government of Namibia. During the struggle and war for independence of the country, Evangelical Lutheran Ovambo-Kavango (ELOC) Printing Press is a printing shop that was burnt down by the Boers. Oshikoto Region
Oshikoto is one of the fourteen regions of Namibia, named after Lake Otjikoto. Its capital is Omuthiya. Further major settlements in the region are Tsumeb, Otjikoto's capital until 2008, and Oniipa. , Oshikoto had 112,170 registered voters. Hans Daniel Namuhuja
Hans Daniel Namuhuja (22 October 1924 – 23 July 1998) was a Namibian poet, author, and teacher. He published in Oshindonga, a dialect of Oshiwambo, and was the first author to publish poetry in this language for which before only the Catechism and few basic texts had been created. Early life and education Namuhuja was born on 22 October 1924 in Oniipa in the Oshikoto Region. He grew up at Epale in the household of Ondonga Queen Victoria Nashikwele Kadhikwa and attended primary school at Walvis Bay and the mission school in Oniipa. After completing secondary school education at Ongwediva Boys School he decided to become a teacher, and enrolled at Oniipa Training School. He graduated with a Lower Teaching Certificate in 1946. Two years later he went to South Africa for the Higher Teaching Diploma. In 1953 he returned to South-West Africa to teach at Oniipa Training School.
