Etymology The Japanese term is the Sino-Japanese reading of the Chinese word (). The term is a compound word, consisting of the characters "public; official; governmental; common; collective; fair; equitable" and "table; desk; (law) case; record; file; plan; proposal." One Hand Clapping (novel)
''One Hand Clapping'' is a 1961 work by Anthony Burgess published originally under the pseudonym Joseph Kell in the UK. The novel was intended as an indictment of what Burgess saw as the degradation of contemporary Western education and culture. Burgess deliberately toned down his trademark love of vocabulary for the novel, which among other things lampoons the British television host Hughie Green. The entire vocabulary in ''One Hand Clapping'' amounts to approximately 800 words. Title The line, "Two hands clap and there is a sound; what is the sound of one hand?" is a traditional Zen koan, and the novel takes its title from this. Burgess explained the title as follows: "The clasped hands of marriage have been reduced y the novel's endto a single hand. Yet it claps." The phrase "one hand clapping", if translated literally into Malay, means "Bertepuk sebelah tangan", which usually means unrequited love when used in context of a relationship or romantic feelings. One Hand Clapping - The Unreleased Demos 2001-2003
Shed Seven are a alternative rock band, formed in York in 1990. One of the groups which contributed to the Britpop music scene of the 1990s, they continue to write, record and release music over thirty years later. They originally comprised singer Rick Witter, guitarist/keyboardist Joe Johnson, bassist Tom Gladwin and drummer Alan Leach. Johnson was later replaced by Paul Banks, although a later lineup of the band included both Johnson and Banks. They belonged to the post- Smiths wave of British musicians such as The Sundays and Marion, with a sound relying heavily on complex guitar arpeggios often in a minor key, and wailing vocals. At the height of their popularity between 1994 and 1999 they had fifteen Top 40 singles and four Top 20 albums in the UK. The band officially broke up in 2003, but reformed for a greatest hits tour in July 2007. Shed Seven continued to play shows around Britain periodically until releasing a new studio album in 2017 with the announcement of ''In ... The film was produced by Zentropa. Plot Erik Svensson is a wealthy but aging businessman whose wife has finally died after years of serious illness.. He is now able to sell his company and plans a life in luxury in Spain with his beautiful girlfriend Helene. Just before departure, he receives a letter from a former mistress claiming that he is the father of her daughter.
