The main goal of practice in Zen is to achieve (Chinese: jianxing 見性), to see or observe one's buddha-nature. ''One Hand Clapping'' is a live-in-studio album by the British rock band Paul McCartney and Wings, released on 14 June 2024, nearly fifty years after it was recorded. The album began as a rockumentary starring Paul McCartney and his then-band, Wings, and directed by David Litchfield. It was recorded over four days in August 1974 at Abbey Road Studios in London. The film features the band performing live in the studio and recording a potential live album, as well as voice-over interviews with the band members. Songs featured include numerous McCartney, Wings and Beatles hits, as well as some covers. Although a TV sales brochure was made, the film and album went unreleased at the time. In the decades since, they have been frequently bootlegged, and various tracks have been released on special editions of other McCartney and Wings albums. ''One Hand Clapping'' is a 1961 work by Anthony Burgess published originally under the pseudonym Joseph Kell in the UK. The novel was intended as an indictment of what Burgess saw as the degradation of contemporary Western education and culture. Burgess deliberately toned down his trademark love of vocabulary for the novel, which among other things lampoons the British television host Hughie Green. The entire vocabulary in ''One Hand Clapping'' amounts to approximately 800 words. Title The line, "Two hands clap and there is a sound; what is the sound of one hand?" is a traditional Zen koan, and the novel takes its title from this. Burgess explained the title as follows: "The clasped hands of marriage have been reduced y the novel's endto a single hand. Yet it claps." The phrase "one hand clapping", if translated literally into Malay, means "Bertepuk sebelah tangan", which usually means unrequited love when used in context of a relationship or romantic feelings. One Hand Clapping – The Unreleased Demos 2001–2003
Shed Seven are an alternative rock band, formed in York in 1990. They were one of the groups which contributed to the Britpop music scene of the 1990s. They originally comprised singer Rick Witter, guitarist/keyboardist Joe Johnson, bassist Tom Gladwin and drummer Alan Leach. Johnson was later replaced by Paul Banks, but a later line-up of the band included both Johnson and Banks. They have achieved 15 Top 40 singles and five Top 40 albums in the UK. The band officially broke up in 2003, but reformed for a greatest-hits tour in July 2007. Shed Seven continued to play shows around Britain periodically until releasing a new studio album in 2017 with the announcement of ''Instant Pleasures''. Their latest album, '' A Matter of Time'', was released on 5 January 2024 and became the first number one album in their career.
