Omar Merlo
Omar Jesús Merlo (; born 12 June 1987) is a former Argentine naturalized Chilean professional footballer who played as a centre-back. Career Merlo made his first team debut for Colón in 2006, and quickly established himself as a regular member of the first team squad. In February 2008, he signed up with powerhouse team River Plate, where he won the Torneo Clausura. Seasons later, Merlo was a key player at the squad of Primera División club Huachipato that earned 2012 Torneo Clausura, scoring the winning penalty in the final. In January 2024, he announced his retirement after playing for Curicó Unido in the 2023 Chilean Primera División. The 2023 Chilean Primera División, known as Campeonato Betsson 2023 for sponsorship purposes until 15 October 2023, was the 93rd season of the Chilean Primera División, Chile's top-flight football league. The season began on 20 January and ended on 9 December 2023. The 2021 Liga 1 de Fútbol Profesional (known as the Liga 1 Betsson 2021 for sponsorship reasons) was the 105th season of the Peruvian Primera División, the highest division of Peruvian football. The 2021 Copa Bicentenario was the 2nd edition of the Copa Bicentenario, Peru, with the participation of the 18 teams of the Liga 1, and 12 teams of the Liga 2. The champions qualified for the 2022 Copa Sudamericana, as well as the Supercopa Peruana against the Liga 1 champions. Atlético Grau were the defending champions. The Copa Bicentenario was a football competition in Peru played by the Association football, football clubs of the Peruvian Primera División, Liga 1 and Peruvian Segunda División, Liga 2. It was organized by the Peruvian Football Federation and was played as a domestic football cup competition between clubs of the first and second division, featuring 36 teams.
