The Maybes?
The Maybes? were an English indie rock band from Liverpool. The group was made up of four principal members: Nick Ellis, Lee Smith, Timo Tierney and Dominic Allen. They had been performing since 2002, and in early 2006 they were signed to Xtra Mile Recordings. The band disbanded in 2009. Background All the members of the band are from the Anfield and Kensington districts of Liverpool, and were close friends before the band started. They attended Liverpool Community College. They have been performing gigs since 2002, supporting other bands as well as their own shows. They are well known in Liverpool for their band name being spray painted in many places. In 2006, The Maybes? signed their first deal with London-based record label, Xtra Mile Recordings. The label released The Maybes?' first record, "Stop, Look & Listen", on a split 7" vinyl with DARTZ! in January 2006 (as part of the Xtra Mile Single Sessions) and went on to sign the band. Indie Rock
Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". Xtra Mile Recordings
Xtra Mile Recordings are a British independent record label based in London, England. The label was founded in 2003 by Charlie Caplowe and they release an eclectic mix of genres with a focus on rock and folk. History The label first signed the artists Million Dead and Reuben in 2003 and subsequently released Frank Turner's solo albums after the split of Million Dead in 2005. While signed with Xtra Mile, Frank Turner has gone on to perform at the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics and sell out Wembley Arena. On 8 August 2011 Xtra Mile were badly affected by the 2011 England riots, when the Sony Music warehouse that stored their records was set on fire. Since the label's inception it has continued to support and break new artists and bands. Xtra Mile has released numerous charting albums from acts including Skinny Lister and Will Varley. Antony Gormley
Sir Antony Mark David Gormley (born 30 August 1950) is a British sculptor. His works include the '' Angel of the North'', a public sculpture in Gateshead in the north of England, commissioned in 1994 and erected in February 1998; ''Another Place'' on Crosby Beach near Liverpool; and '' Event Horizon'', a multipart site installation which premiered in London in 2007, then subsequently in Madison Square in New York City (2010), São Paulo, Brazil (2012), and Hong Kong (2015–16). Another Place (sculpture)
''Another Place'' is a piece of modern sculpture by British artist Antony Gormley located at Crosby Beach in Merseyside, England. It consists of 100 cast iron figures facing towards the sea. The figures are modelled on the artist's own naked body. The work proved controversial due to the naked statues but has increased tourism to the beach. After being exhibited at two other locations it was put on display at Crosby on 1 July 2005. After some controversy Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council decided on 7 March 2007 that the sculptures should be permanently installed at the beach. Crosby Beach
Crosby Beach is part of the Merseyside coastline north of Liverpool in the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton, England, stretching about North-West from the Seaforth Dock in the Port of Liverpool, through Waterloo, where it separates the sea from the Marina. The beach was awarded Keep Britain Tidy's Quality Coast Award in 2011. Since 2007, the beach has been the permanent home of the Another Place sculptures by Antony Gormley. History The beach was stabilised from the mid 19th century, as prior to this, high sea tides could come in as far as the first row of houses.
