''Oltremare'' is a ballet by Mauro Bigonzetti to Bruno Moretti's eponymous music commissioned by New York City Ballet. The premiere took place Wednesday, January 23, 2008, at the New York State Theater, Lincoln Center, with costumes by the choreographer and Marc Happel and lighting by Mark Stanley. Ballets By Bruno Moretti
Bruno Moretti (born 1957) is an Italian composer, pianist, and conductor. He has composed ballet music (as well as theatre, cinema and television music) working in collaboration with the choreographer Mauro Bigonzetti. He is also an accompanist of singers. Biography Moretti was born in Rome, and studied initially with Armando Renzi. Then he became Nino Rota’s assistant for the creation of the opera Napoli Milionaria at Spoleto festival in 1977. Later he studied conducting at Siena's Accademia Musicale Chigiana. He made his conducting debut in 1979 at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma with ''Madama Butterfly'' by Giacomo Puccini. He has conducted throughout Italy and in England, Israel, the Far East and North America. Maria Kowroski
Maria Kowroski is an American ballet dancer. She is a principal dancer at the New York City Ballet. Early life Kowroski was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She started ballet at the age of five. In 1992, she entered the School of American Ballet in New York City. Career In 1994, at the age of 17, Kowroski entered the New York City Ballet as an apprentice, and became a member of the corps de ballet a year later. She was promoted to soloist in 1997 and principal dancer in 1999. She has danced classical productions such as ''Swan Lake'', Balanchine's works including ''Tchaikovsky Pas de Deux'' and ''The Nutcracker'', and originated roles such as Christopher Wheeldon's ''After the Rain''. Before her retirement she was the company's most senior dancer, and the only remaining dancer to have worked with founding choreographer Jerome Robbins. Mauro Bigonzetti (born 1960) is an Italian ballet dancer and choreographer. He trained at the ballet school of Teatro dell'Opera di Roma and entered their company in 1979. In 1983 Bigonzetti joined the Reggio Emilia company Aterballetto, renowned for its contemporary repertory. He first began to choreograph for Aterballetto in 1990. In 1993 he joined Balletto di Toscana as resident choreographer and in 1997 returned to Aterballetto as artistic director. Throughout his choreographic career Bigonzetti has maintained a close relationship with Aterballetto. He continues there as principal choreographer, although his career now centers on commissions written for major companies abroad. He served as director of La Scala Ballet in 2016 but resigned for health reasons after eight months. Amar Ramasar
Amar Ramasar (born 1981) is an American ballet dancer and former principal dancer of the New York City Ballet (NYCB). Ramasar joined the NYCB as an apprentice in 2000 and joined the corps de ballet in 2001. As of 2010, Ramasar remained the only person of color who was a principal in NYCB. In 2018, Ramasar was fired from NYCB for sharing explicit pictures of female dancers without their knowledge or consent. In 2019, he made his debut at the Teatro dell'Opera in Rome. That same year, a union arbitrator ruled that, while suspension from NYCB was fitting, his firing was too severe a punishment. As a result, the arbitrator ordered Ramasar to be reinstated by the NYCB. In July 2021, the NYCB announced that Ramasar was retiring in May 2022. Tiler Kalyn Peck (born January 12, 1989) is an American ballet dancer who is a principal dancer with the New York City Ballet. As well as ballet, she has performed in musical theatre shows and has made cameo appearances in films including ''Donnie Darko'' and television series including '' Tiny Pretty Things''. Early life Born in Bakersfield, California, Peck started her studies at her mother's ballet studio in Bakersfield, at the age of two.
