Ollie Matson
Ollie Genoa Matson II (May 1, 1930 – February 19, 2011) was an American Olympic medal winning sprinter and professional football player. He played as a halfback and return specialist in the National Football League (NFL) from 1952 to 1966 for the Chicago Cardinals and the Los Angeles Rams. He played college football for the San Francisco Dons and was selected by the Cardinals in the first round (third overall) of the 1952 NFL draft. Matson was named an NFL first team All-Pro seven times and selected to the Pro Bowl six times during the course of his professional career. He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1972, and later included in the NFL's 1950s all-decade team during the league's 100th anniversary celebration. A halfback (HB) is an Offense (sports), offensive position in American football, whose duties involve lining up in the offensive backfield and Carry (gridiron football), carrying the ball (gridiron football), ball on most rush (gridiron football), rushing American football plays, plays, i.e. a running back. When the principal ball carrier lines up deep in the backfield, and especially when that player is placed behind another player (usually a Blocking (American football), blocking back), as in the I formation, that player is instead referred to as a tailback (TB). The 1955 Pro Bowl was the National Football League's (NFL) fifth annual all-star game which featured the league's outstanding performers from the 1954 season. The game was played on January 16, 1955, at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles, California, in front of 42,972 fans. The West squad defeated the East by a score of 26–19. Reception (gridiron Football)
In gridiron football, a reception, also known informally as a catch, is part of a passing play in which a player in bounds successfully catches (receives) a forward pass thrown from their team's quarterback behind the line of scrimmage. In most cases, after making the catch, the receiver will then proceed to run towards the opposing end zone carrying the ball and try to score a touchdown, unless the play ends due to him being downed or forced out of bounds. The 1951 All-Pacific Coast football team consists of American football players chosen by the Associated Press (AP) and the United Press (UP) as the best college football players by position in the Pacific Coast region during the 1951 college football season. The AP selections included separate offensive and defensive units and were based on the consensus views of "football experts and coaches throughout the Pacific Coast." List Of All-Pac-12 Conference Football Teams
The All-Pac-12 football team is an annual Pac-12 Conference honor bestowed on the best players in the conference following every college football season. Pac-12 coaches select first and second teams that each typically consists of 11 offensive players (a quarterback, two running backs, two wide receivers, a tight end, and five offensive linemen), 11 defensive players (four defensive linemen, three linebackers, and four defensive backs), and four specialists (a punter, a kicker, a return specialist, and a special teams player).
