Olga Kusenko
Olga Yakivna Kusenko (11 November 191917 November 1997) was a Ukrainian actress who became the People's Artist of the Ukrainian SSR (1962) and the People's Artist of the USSR (1967). She was Yuri Tymoshenko's first wife. Biography She was born in 1919 in the city of Kaniv (now Cherkasy Oblast). From 1937 to 1941, she studied at the Kyiv Theater Institute under . Since 1942, she was an artist of the Stalingrad Front Theater, then of the Theater of the 4th Ukrainian Front. Conducted more than 450 concerts on the front lines. 3 1944 she worked at the Ivan Franko National Academic Drama Theater. She was a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic of the 6th–8th convocations (1963–1975). She died on November 17, 1997, in Kyiv. She was buried at the Baikove Cemetery. Kaniv
Kaniv (, ) is a city in Cherkasy Raion, Cherkasy Oblast, central Ukraine. The city rests on the Dnieper River, and is one of the main inland river ports on the Dnieper. It is an urban hromada of Ukraine. Population: Kaniv is a historical town that was founded in the 11th century by Kievan prince Yaroslav the Wise. The city is known today mostly for the burial site of Taras Shevchenko, the great Ukrainian poet and artist. Picturesque and ancient, Kaniv was once one of the largest cities of Kievan Rus'. At that time, it was an outpost used for diplomatic meetings between Ruthenian princes and ambassadors of militant tribes. Maria Zankovetska
Maria Kostiantynivna Adasovska (; 4 August 1854 – 4 October 1934), better known under her pseudonym Maria Zankovetska () was a Ukrainian theater actress. Some sources date her birth to 3 August 1860. In 1922, Zankovetska became the first recipient of the People's Artist of Ukraine (People's Artist of Ukrainian SSR). Biography Maria was born to an impoverished landowner and nobleman, Kostyantyn Adasovsky, and a Chernihiv city resident (Burgess (title), burgess) Maria Nefedova, in Zanky, Nizhyn County, Chernihiv Governorate (present-day Nizhyn Raion, Chernihiv Oblast, Ukraine). She had many siblings. Maria was a graduate of the Chernihiv City Female Gymnasium. People's Artist of the USSR, also sometimes translated as National Artist of the USSR, was an honorary title granted to artists of the Soviet Union. The term is confusingly used to translate two Russian language titles: Народный артист СССР (''Narodny artist SSSR''), awarded in performing arts and Народный художник СССР (''Narodny khudozhnik SSSR''), granted in some visual arts. As those titles were granted by the government, honorees were afforded certain privileges and would often receive commissions from the Minister of Culture of the Soviet Union. Accordingly, artists and authors who expressed criticism of the Communist Party were seldom granted such recognition, if not outright censored. Each Soviet Republic, as well as the Autonomous Republics (ASSRs), had a similar award that would be held previously by virtually every receiver of the higher title of People's Artist of the USSR.
