Olga Fedtschenko
Olga Aleksandrovna Fedchenko or Fedtschenko (; Armfeld; 30 October 1845 – 24 April 1921) was a Russian botanist. ''Rosa fedtschenkoana'', which is found in Asia, was named in her honour (with a German transliteration of her name). Early life Ol'ga (Olga) Armfeld was born in Moscow in 1845. Her father was Alexandre Armfeldt who was a professor at the University of Moscow. She was educated at home until she was eleven when she went to school where she showed an interest in Botany. She began collecting plants and from about 1861 she was using her art and language skills to translate academic descriptions from English, French and German naturalists. She was preparing illustrations, communicating with foreign naturalists and visiting the University's Zoological Museum. She worked for several years before she met the geologist, Alexei Pavlovich Fedchenko. The Society of Devotees of Natural Science, Anthropology, and Ethnography (OLEAE; ) was a public scientific organization in the Russian Empire and its successor states from 1863 to 1931. ''Iris narynensis'' is a plant species in the genus '' Iris'', it is also in the subgenus of ''Scorpiris''. It is a bulbous perennial. It was published in Bulletin of the Jardin of St Peterburg's Botanic Garden 159 in 1905. The name comes from the Naryn River in Kyrgyzstan, where the iris was found. ''Iris narbutii'' is a species of flowering plant in the genus '' Iris'', subgenus ''Scorpiris''. It is a bulbous perennial from Central Asia. It has dark green leaves, short stems, spring flowers in shades of greenish-yellow to pale violet. Description ''Iris narbutii'' has a brown bulb with papery tunic, the bulb is approx. in diameter. It has thickened roots, which look similar to fat short pointed tubers. The thin, channelled dark green leaves emerge before the flowers, they are 5–25 mm wide (close to the base of the plant). ''Eremurus'' is a genus of deciduous perennial flowers in the family Asphodelaceae. They are also known as the foxtail lilies or desert candles. They are native to eastern Europe in (Russia and Ukraine), and temperate Asia from Turkey to China, with many species in Central Asia. The inflorescence consists of a tall floral spike whose individual flowers extend their anthers around the stem axis as in the bottle brushes. Depending on the species, the spike consists of many densely-arranged, small flowers in shades of orange, yellow, white, pale pink or red-orange. The grey-green, straplike leaves grow in a tuft from the succulent root crown. Eremurus is known for its thick, fingerlike roots, which grow from a central growth point.
