Oles Berdnyk
Oleksandr Pavlovych Berdnyk ( uk, Бердник Олесь Павлович; November 27, 1926, officially December 25, 1927 - March 18, 2003) was a Ukrainian science fiction writer, futurist and globalist, philosopher and theologian, public figure, Red Army soldier during World War II, and a political prisoner in Soviet camps. He wrote more than 20 novels and short stories that have been translated into many languages, including English, German, French, Russian, and Hungarian. He has been described as the most influential classic writer of Ukrainian science fiction. He was a founding member of the Ukrainian Helsinki Group and a leader of the Ukrainian Humanist Association " Ukrainian Spiritual Republic." Marcin Oleś (born 4 January 1973) is a jazz and free improvisation bass player, composer and record producer. He is the twin brother of Bartłomiej Oleś. Biography Oles was born on 4 January 1973 in Sosnowiec, Poland. Since his first recording in 2000 he continuously (with his brother Bartłomiej) cooperated and performed with musicians such as Theo Jörgensmann, David Murray, William Parker, Herb Robertson, Ken Vandermark, Hamid Drake, Chris Speed, Erik Friedlander a.o. In 2003 Marcin Oles became a founding member of the Trio ''Oles Jörgensmann Oles'' with his brother Bartłomiej and German clarinet-player Theo Jörgensmann. The last album of this Trio, titled ''Directions'' was voted by internet jazz magazine "Diapazon" from Poland as "The Best Recording Of The Year 2005". Oleksandr Oles (real name Oleksandr Ivanovych Kandyba) ( uk, Олександр Іванович Олесь) (1878–1944) was a prominent Ukrainian writer and poet. He is the father of another Ukrainian poet and political activist, Oleh Olzhych, who perished in the Nazi labor camps in 1944. Life He was born in 1878 in the khutir (small village) of Kandyba (now the village of Kandybyne, Bilopillia raion, Sumy Oblast) in Kharkiv province. He studied at the Kharkiv agriculture school, later at the Kharkiv veterinary institute. He is one of representatives of the Ukrainian Cossack family of Kandyba. In 1907 he married Vira Svadkovska. Marian Oleś
Marian Oleś (8 December 1934 – 24 May 2005) was a Polish prelate of the Catholic Church who worked in the diplomatic service of the Holy See and in the Roman Curia. Biography Marian Oleś was born on 8 December 1934 in Gmina Miastkowo, Poland. As a boy he was exiled from Poland with his family by the Soviets and they lived in Siberia, Persia and India, and his early education was in India and England. He was ordained a priest on 9 July 1961. He joined the diplomatic service of the Holy See and his first postings were to Ecuador, Indonesia, Iran, and Portugal. He then spent ten years in Rome working at the Congregation for Bishops. On 28 November 1987, Pope John Paul II appointed him Titular Archbishop of Ratiaria and Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in Iraq and in Kuwait. He received his episcopal consecration from John Paul on 6 January 1988. Leslie Oles
Leslie Oles (born 18 November 1990 in Beaconsfield, Quebec) is a Canadian ice hockey player. She started played a professional hockey when she was 17, helping the player-run Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL) start up. She was elected to the all-star team and in her second season helped the Montreal Stars win the Clarkson Cup. She later joined the interuniversity league while studying physical education at McGill University. She was a member of Canada's Under-18 Team and won a silver medal at the 2008 world championships. Oles Alekseevich Buzina ( ua, Оле́сь Олексі́йович Бузина́, translit=Oles Oleksiyovych Buzyna; 13 July 1969 – 16 April 2015) was a Ukrainian journalist and writer known for his criticism of Ukrainian politics and for the support of closer ties of Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia.
