Oldmachar Academy
Oldmachar Academy is situated in Bridge of Don in the north of Aberdeen in an area of private housing. It is a six-year comprehensive, non-denominational school which opened to pupils in August 1982 (April 1983 on its present site). In 2004 it was ranked in the top 50 Secondary Schools in Scotland. Overview The school consists of seven blocks built to form an irregular quadrangle, with playing fields to the north of the school. The school buildings have often been a target for vandals, with 140 incidents recorded between 2016 and 2019. Neil Fachie
Neil Michael Fachie (born 12 March 1984) is a Scottish cyclist and former track athlete, competing in events for people with a visual impairment. Fachie has competed in two Paralympics, as a sprinter in the 2008 Summer Paralympics, 2008 Games in Beijing and as a Tandem (UCI), tandem cyclist in 2012 Summer Paralympics, London 2012. In London he won the gold medal in the Men's individual 1 km time trial and silver in the individual sprint, both with Barney Storey as his sighted pilot. Michael Alexander Rose (born 11 October 1995) is a Scottish professional footballer who plays as a defender for club Stoke City. He will become a free agent on 30 June 2025. Rose began his career with Aberdeen and spent time on loan for Forfar Athletic before signing for Ayr United in June 2016. After three seasons at Somerset Park, Rose moved to English club Coventry City in July 2019. He spent four years with the Sky Blues before joining Stoke City in July 2023. Dennis Wyness
Dennis Wyness (born 22 March 1977) is a Scottish retired footballer. He played either as an attacking midfielder or as a striker. He has previously played for Aberdeen, Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Hearts, St Mirren, Queen of the South, Dumbarton, Peterhead, Elgin City and Huntly. Gavin Paul Rae (born 28 November 1977) is a Scottish professional football manager and former player who played as a midfielder. He was recently the head coach of National Premier Leagues NSW club Hakoah Sydney City East FC. Rae started his playing career with Dundee, making over 200 league appearances for the club. Scott Booth (born 16 December 1971) is a Scottish football coach and former player, who is the head coach of Aberdeen Women in the Scottish Women's Premier League 1. A forward by position, he began his playing career at Aberdeen as a teenager, before moving to Germany in 1997 to play for Borussia Dortmund. After a spell in the Netherlands with FC Twente (as well as loans from Dortmund to FC Utrecht and Vitesse Arnhem), he returned to Aberdeen in 2003, retiring a year later due to injury. Fyvie Castle is a castle in the village of Fyvie, near Turriff in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. History The earliest parts of Fyvie Castle date from the 13th century – some sources claim it was built in 1211 by William the Lion. Fyvie was the site of an open-air court held by Robert the Bruce, and Charles I of England, Charles I lived there as a child for 4 years. Esslemont Castle is a ruined tower house in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It is located on the A920 west of Ellon and is designated a scheduled monument. Etymology The name ''Esslemont'' may be of Brittonic origin and originate with the term corresponding to Welsh ''iselfynydd'', meaning "low hill". History The first mention of Esslemont is as the 'manor of Eislemont' in the 14th century.
