Old Market (Louisville, Georgia)
The Old Market is a historic open-air structure in the middle of Louisville, Georgia. It was built around 1795 during the period when this town was the capital of Georgia. It was entered into the National Register of Historic Places on February 17, 1978. The structure was built as a public market but was also sometimes used as a slave market. Amid the George Floyd protests in Georgia, George Floyd protests in 2020, the city council of Louisville voted to have the structure removed from the town. History The Old Market is four-sided (24 feet each) open-air shed with a pyramid-shaped roof. There is a steeple at the top containing a bell. Four heavy wooden timbers support each side. A new roof and a cement floor were added to the structure in the 1950s, and the timbers (which are now badly rotted) were later reinforced with iron. Old Market House (Galena, Illinois)
The Old Market House, currently being operated as the Galena Welcome Center, is a brick building built in the Greek Revival style in 1845 in Galena, Illinois. It is owned and operated by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency as an Illinois State Historic Site. City hall and public market The Old Market House was built by the city of Galena to serve as a city hall and enclosed public farmer's market. A rapid increase in population in the Galena area in the 1830s and 1840s, largely a result of the discovery of galena, a kind of lead ore found in the region, had led to a sharp increase in demand for local foodstuffs. The Old Market House's business plan called for the US$50 per year rents from the twelve enclosed farmer's market stalls to help maintain the building. The Old Market is a neighborhood located in downtown Omaha, Nebraska, United States, and is bordered by South 10th Street to the east, 13th Street to the west, Farnam Street to the north and Jackson Street to the South. The neighborhood has many restaurants, art galleries and upscale shopping. The area retains its brick paved streets from the turn of the 20th century, horse-drawn carriages, and covered sidewalks in some areas. It is not uncommon to see a variety of street performers, artists, and other vendors. Historic designation The area is on the National Register of Historic Places as a historic district, and borders the former site of the Jobbers Canyon Historic District, as well as the extant Omaha Rail and Commerce Historic District and the Warehouses in Omaha MPS. Old Market Building (Georgetown, South Carolina)
Old Market Building, also known as the Rice Museum, is a historic public market building located at Georgetown, Georgetown County, South Carolina. It was built in 1832–1835, and is a one-story, Classical Revival temple-form building on a high arcaded base. The arched area was used as an open-air market but was enclosed in the early-20th century. A tower topped by a square stage and an open belfry was added. The tower houses a four-sided clock that was added in about 1842. The building has served as a town hall, a jail, an open-air market, and a slave market. Old Market, Bristol
Old Market is a conservation area of national significance to the east of the city centre in Bristol, England. Old Market Street and West Street form the central axis of the area, which is approximately bounded by New Street and Lawfords Gate to the north, Trinity Road and Trinity Street to the east, Unity Street and Waterloo Road to the south and Temple Way underpass to the west. Old Market Street is an ancient market place which developed immediately outside the walls of Bristol Castle on what was for many centuries the main road to London (now the A420); on market days Jacob Street and Redcross Street, which run parallel to Old Market Street, took the through traffic. Old Market's Pie Poudre Court, which dealt out summary justice to market-day offenders, was not formally abolished until 1971. The Old Market, Hove is a historic (Listed building, grade II listed) building on the border of Brighton and Hove in England. It has served various functions, currently operating as an independent mixed-arts venue under the name "TOMThe Old Market". History The Old Market was built in 1825 as a covered marketplace for sales of meat, fish and vegetables. It supplied the residential development of Brunswick (Hove), Brunswick, which was originally independent from Brighton and Hove village. As Brighton and Hove have grown up around it, the building has catered for changing needs, operating as a riding academy and stables, warehouse and, since the 1980s, as an arts venue. Established as Old Market Arts Centre (OMAC), the initial arts venture entered difficulties. The building was renovated in 1998 by The Old Market Trust with a lottery grant of over four million pounds, as a home for The Hanover Band and a community arts venue for Brighton and Hove.
