Doctor Who
''Doctor Who'' is a British science fiction television series broadcast by the BBC since 1963. The series depicts the adventures of a Time Lord called the Doctor, an extraterrestrial being who appears to be human. The Doctor explores the universe in a time-travelling space ship called the TARDIS. The TARDIS exterior appears as a blue British police box, which was a common sight in Britain in 1963 when the series first aired. With various companions, the Doctor combats foes, works to save civilisations, and helps people in need. Beginning with William Hartnell, thirteen actors have headlined the series as the Doctor; in 2017, Jodie Whittaker became the first woman to officially play the role on television. Bernice Surprise Summerfield (later Professor Bernice Summerfield or just Benny) is a fictional character created by author Paul Cornell as a new companion of the Seventh Doctor in Virgin Publishing's range of original full-length '' Doctor Who'' novels, the '' New Adventures''. The ''New Adventures'' were authorised novels carrying on from where the ''Doctor Who'' television series had left off, and Summerfield was introduced in Cornell's novel '' Love and War'' in 1992. History A 26th century archeologist, Summerfield became a hugely popular character amongst fans of the books, and was present right up until their end in 1997. ''The Two Jasons'' is a novel by Dave Stone, focusing on the life of Jason Kane (Doctor Who), Jason Kane, a character from the spin-off media based on the long-running British science fiction on television, science fiction television series ''Doctor Who''. Jonathan Michael Clements (born 9 July 1971) is a British author and scriptwriter. His non-fiction works include biographies of Confucius, Koxinga and Qin Shi Huang, as well as monthly opinion columns for ''Neo'' magazine. He is also the co-author of encyclopedias of anime and Japanese television dramas. Background Clements speaks both Chinese and Japanese, and many of his works relate to East Asia. Marc Platt (writer)
Marc Platt (born 1953) is a British novelist and playwright. He is best known for his work with the BBC science fiction television series '' Doctor Who''. Career After studying catering at a technical college, Platt worked first for Trust House Forte, and then in administration for the BBC. After multiple attempts to work on the series, he wrote the 1989 ''Doctor Who'' serial '' Ghost Light'' based on two proposals, one of which later became the novel '' Lungbarrow''. That novel was greatly anticipated by fans as it was the culmination of the so-called " Cartmel Masterplan", revealing details of the Doctor's background and family. After the original series' cancellation, Platt wrote multiple tie-in novels for Virgin Publishing, and later would become a regular writer for Big Finish Productions.
