Old Airport (Doha)
Old Airport ( ar, المطار العتيق; also referred to as Al Matar Al Qadeem) is an area of Doha, Qatar. The district is located close to the site of Doha's old international airport servicing Qatar before the construction of the Hamad International Airport. Running through the district is Al Matar Al Qadeem Street (known in English as Old Airport Street), around which many businesses and retailers cater to the residents of the area. The first mall constructed in Qatar is also located within the district, next to the congested Najma roundabout. History The Qatar government decided to create the airport in the 1900s, and later decided to create a bigger airport. Municipal officials turned their attention towards developing Old Airport in the 1970s. In the 1980s, the falling price of oil resulted in these plans scaled back and eventually put on hold indefinitely. No new master plans have been put in place for the district since then. Qatar
Qatar (, ; ar, قطر, Qaṭar ; local vernacular pronunciation: ), officially the State of Qatar,) is a country in Western Asia. Al Jasrah
Al Jasrah ( ar, الجسرة) is a district in Qatar, located in the municipality of Ad Dawhah. It hosts Souq Waqif, one of the largest souqs in Qatar. Other points of interest in the district include Souq Jaidah, the Souq Waqif Falcon Hospital, the Souq Waqif Horse Stables, Abdul Aziz Nasser Theatre, Waqif Art Centre, Al Koot Fort (also known as Doha Fort) and Doha Fort Museum. Most of its landmarks are accessible through Al Souq Street, Souq Waqif Street and Al Jasra Street. To the immediate east of Al Jasrah is Al Souq, which hosts a number of smaller-sized souqs. Etymology The meaning of "jasrah" in Arabic is "bridge". It was given this name because the partially submerged rocks along its coastline look like a bridge. Qatar National Bank (QNB Group) ( ar, بنك قطر الوطني) is a Qatari multinational commercial bank headquartered in Doha, Qatar. It was founded in 1964 and currently has subsidiaries and associates in 31 countries spanning three continents. The bank's ownership is evenly divided between the Qatar Investment Authority and members of the public. History QNB was founded on 6 June 1964 as the country's first domestically-owned commercial bank. Doha Metro
The Doha Metro is a rapid transit system in Doha, Qatar's capital city, which became operational on 8 May 2019. It has three lines with an approximate overall length of 76 km and 37 stations. It is an integral component of the larger Qatar Rail network, which will include a long-distance rail for passengers and freight, linking Qatar to the GCC, and the Lusail LRT. Doha International Airport
Doha International Airport ( ar, مطار الدوحة الدولي) is an airport in Doha, Qatar. It was Qatar's commercial international airport until Hamad International Airport opened on 27 May 2014. While all scheduled commercial traffic ceased, the airport site and existing runway is still used by Qatar Emiri Air Force, Qatar Amiri Flight, Rizon Jet, Gulf Helicopters and Qatar Aeronautical College. It also acts as a state/diplomatic airport catering to both Qatar Amiri Flight (which is based at the airport) and state visit flights. The airport welcomed commercial flights again on 15 September 2022 for selected airlines to handle increased traffic for the 2022 FIFA World Cup taking place in the country in November. Al Thumama (Doha)
Al-Thumama ( ar, الثمامة, ath-Thumāma) is a district in Doha in Qatar. It is one of five sites for the government-sponsored project to develop reservoirs in the country. The reservoirs, once completed at the estimated date of 2017, are expected to be the largest in the world in their category. It is one of the venues for the Qatar 2022 World Cup. As one of Doha's newer districts, the area is well-planned and was laid out according to a strict grid pattern. City authorities first planned the district in the 1990s, and since then it has grown at a fast rate. It is primarily a residential district, with Qataris and Arab expatriates being the most common groups to reside here.
