Olav Ringdal
Olav Ringdal (24 March 1921 – 4 April 1945) was a Norwegian resistance member during World War II. He was born in Sandefjord to parents from Larvik. He had gone through commerce school as well as an average adjuster's exam, and studied law at the University of Oslo during World War II. During the war he also became a member of Milorg. He co-edited an illegal newspaper, worked as a courier and with propaganda, and led the information service. He was trained by Special Operations Executive operator Gregers Gram. Ringdal fell out with the Nazi authorities for the first time as a part of the mass arrest of students on 30 November 1943. 1,166 students were arrested, and 644 were sent to Germany for "readjustment" following the 28 November university fire in Oslo. Ringdal was not among those sent to Germany because he managed to escape. On 4 April 1945 a German crackdown against Operation Derby took place. The Norwegian Society for Sea Rescue (Redningsselskapet in Norwegian, commonly shortened to RS) is the only organization wholly dedicated to assisting people and vessels at sea along the extensive Norwegian coastline. Overview Norwegian Society for Sea Rescue is a charity organization funded partly by membership fees, partly by donations, and partly by government subsidies. Vestre Aker (Western Aker) is a borough of the city of Oslo, Norway. It has a population of 50,157 as of 2020. The previous Aker Municipality was merged into the city of Oslo in 1948. Roy Nielsen
Roy Nielsen (27 March 1916 – 4 April 1945) was a Norwegian resistance member during World War II, a member of Milorg and involved in propaganda and sabotage. Among his sabotage operations was the destruction of 25 Messerschmitt fighter aircraft and 150 engines stored in a bus garage in Oslo, on 14 August 1944, together with Max Manus, Gunnar Sønsteby and others. Together with Max Manus he succeeded in sinking the German troop ship SS ''Donau'' in the Oslofjord 16 January 1945, by placing magnetic limpet mines with time delay on the ship's side. Personal life Nielsen was born in Kristiania as the son of Christian and Signe Nielsen, and he married Helen Næss in 1941. He was an active amateur boxer in the club Fagforeningenes IF av 1926. Maximo Guillermo "Max" Manus DSO, MC & Bar (9 December 1914 – 20 September 1996) was a Norwegian resistance fighter during World War II, specialising in sabotage in occupied Norway. After the war he wrote several books about his adventures and started the successful office supply company ''Max Manus AS''. Early life Manus was born in Bergen, Norway in 1914, to a Norwegian father and a Danish mother. His father's name was originally Johan Magnussen, but he changed his name to Juan Manus after living several years in foreign (mainly Spanish-speaking) countries. Career After many years of extensive travelling, Manus returned to Scandinavia before the outbreak of World War II, upon which he soon joined up with the Norwegian Army and went to fight in a volunteer detachment with the Finns against the Soviets. Kolbein Lauring
Kolbein Widrik Lauring (15 June 1914 – 31 May 1987) was a Norwegian resistance member during World War II. Biography He grew up in Ljan (until 1948 a part of Aker) together with later resistance ace Max Manus. The two participated as volunteers in the Winter War, on the Finnish side. When Germany invaded and occupied Norway in 1940, Lauring and Manus returned to Norway. They first participated in the Norwegian Campaign, where Lauring was taken prisoner-of-war at Akershus Fortress in the early phase. Lauring could be facing a death penalty, but then Germany released the prisoners-of-war to gain acceptance for their occupation. Lauring and Manus then travelled north together, attempting to reach the Battles of Narvik via Sweden. However, Norway capitulated before they could reach the northern front lines.
