Okpekpe Road Race
Okpekpe road race is an annual event in Edo State, Nigeria. It is a 10K run, 10 Kilometre road race over hills and tarred roads, starting from Apana Road and ending in Okpekpe town. The 2018 edition of the race featured participants from Kenya, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Uganda, Morocco, Israel, Bahrain, Morocco  and Nigeria. Kenyan Kibet Alex won the men’s category of the 2018 edition of the race with a finishing time of 29 minutes 46 seconds. Simon Chepat was second with a finishing of 30 minutes 29 seconds and Ronoh Timothy placed third with a finishing time of 30 minutes 39 seconds. Yani Dera Dida won the female category. The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) silver labelled the Okpekpe international 10km road race. Past winners References External links

Okpekpe
Okpekpe (Okphekphe) is a town in Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State, Nigeria. It is located about northeast of Auchi. It has a population of 3155 inhabitants. Its people belong to a homogeneous group of people, called the Afemai. Wude Ayalew
Wude Ayalew Yimer ( Amharic: ውዴ ፡ አያሌው ፡ ይመር; born 4 July 1987) is an Ethiopian professional long-distance runner. She was the bronze medallist over 10,000 metres at the 2009 World Championships in Athletics and took the silver in that event at the 2011 All-Africa Games. Her sister Hiwot Ayalew is also a top level runner. At the 2006 World Cross Country Championships she finished fifth in the long race, while the Ethiopian team, of which Yimer was a part, won the team competition. She finished fifth in 5000 metres at the 2006 World Junior Championships. She closed the season by winning the Cross Internacional de Venta de Baños race by over 25 seconds. At the 2009 World Championships in Athletics in Berlin she won the bronze medal in the 10,000 metres race. Edward Pingua Zakayo (born 25 November 2001) is a Kenyan male long-distance runner who competes in the 5000 metres. He was the bronze medallist in that event at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
