Okpara Inland
Okpara Inland is a community located in the Ethiope East local government area of Delta State Nigeria. This community is a progeny of the Agbon Kingdom. Local history has it that it is the first son of Agbon whose traditional seat of leadership is Isiokolo. The previous king of the community, now deceased, HRM Chamberlain Oyibocha Orovwuje, Ogurimerime Okpara I, used this community as his centre of leadership bypassing the ancient satellite of Isiokolo. Origins/Background The traditions of the origins and migrations of Okpara as one of the Urhobo groups is still shrouded in obscurity and uncertainty. However, Okpara claim descent from one progenitor called Agbon who is said to have migrated from Benin at a point in time to settle in Agbon town. Predicated upon this belief of common descent from Agbon, is the worship of Isiokoru fetish by Agbon people, even till today. Agbon Kingdom
The Agbon Kingdom (also Agbon ẹkwuotọ ) is one of twenty-four subunits of the Urhobo people that have been in existence since before the rise of the Benin Empire in the 1440s and before the arrival of the Portuguese in the Western Niger Delta in the 1480s. It is located in Ethiope East Local Government Area In Delta State, Nigeria. Which occupies a large space of about 375 square kilometres. This kingdom is surrounded by other Urhobo communities in the locality. The traditional seat of government in this kingdom is located at Isiokolo. History Oral tradition speaks of migrations from the ancient Benin Kingdom by the Urhobos that gave rise to this area. Isiokolo (also known as Otorho 'r' agbon) is a town in the Ethiope East local government area of Delta State in Nigeria. Chamberlain Orovwuje
Chamberlain Oyibocha Orovwuje (July 31, 1935 – June 2012), Ogurimerime I, was the Ovie of Agbon Kingdom from 1958 till 2012. He was also the former chairman of Delta State Council of Traditional Rulers. He ruled the traditional kingdom of Agbon for 54 years and was the longest reigning monarch in Delta State. He died in June 2012, at the age of 77. Chamberlain Oyibocha Orovwuje is a scion of the Orovwuje dynasty of Okpara Inland. Kokori
Kokori is one of the six suburban 'states' of the Agbon 'kingdom' in LGA Ethiope East, Delta State, Nigeria. The other 'states' are Okpara, Eku, Ovu, Orhoakpor, and Igun. Geography Its land area is 196 square kilometres and is blessed with a period of downpour which lasts seven months (from March to October) and a relative five months of little or no rain (from October to February). Onigu Otite
Onigu Otite (January 21, 1939 – March 14, 2019) was a Nigerian sociologist. He was among the first set of students to attend the first indigenous Nigerian university - University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He wrote several books including ''The Urhobo People, On the Path of Progress, Ethnic Pluralism and Ethnic Conflicts in Nigeria,'' and ''Introduction to Sociology'' which he co-authored with William Ogionwo. Tanure Ojaide (born 1948) is a Nigerian poet and academic. As a writer, he is noted for his unique stylistic vision and for his intense criticism of imperialism, religion, and other issues. Evwaraye
Seppo Evwaraye (born June 1, 1982) is a Finnish former offensive guard in American football and former general manager and interim head coach of Finnish team Wasa Royals of Maple league. Evelyn Irikefe Don Momoh (February 5, 1980 – June 12, 2014), also referred to by her stage name Kefee, was a Nigerian gospel singer and composer.
